I'm also in the boat of looking at the Softopper + Datin Fab rack like GreenZJ has on his JT, but I think there would be at least a couple of opportunities for improvement with this Bestop model on it:
  • The stick-on velcro on the tailgate looks cheap, an alternative way to fasten to it more securely would be great. I believe others have requested this in this thread as well.
  • My understanding is that because the Softopper actually raises up as you fold it in, you can't actively fold it down and remove it with the Datin rack on around it. It would be much better if it folded straight forward, or maybe even in on itself as you collapse it, to avoid this issue.
  • I realize it's a soft shell, so someone determined enough can just cut into it to get into the bed area, but for common parking situations having a mechanism other than velcro to secure the flaps down that a common thief might not spend time on because it would appear suspicious would be nice.
I'm sure there are other improvements available with some creativity. For me, coming from currently using a hard rolling bed cover, this combo is looking more appealing because it gives me more dry space, more diverse bed usefulness option, the softshell is more "easily" removable than a hard shell (without the rack on), and still gives the path for my future RTT above it. That said, I'd be sacrificing on the security of the bed, as my hardshell currently locks down and keeps sticky fingers out better than a softshell could.

Hey guys,

Here are some teaser concepts from one of our product designers. What do you think?

This is sweet. What would make it better is for it to be somewhat adjustable, height wise, for those that have bed racks with carriers on top, but want the soft pop-up underneath. Whether it is used for camping, hauling dogs or keeping cargo dry when you need to.

It looks like it has side panels that zipper out, looks interesting!

But it looks like the leading edge is higher than the hardtop. That’s not gonna do much for aerodynamics.

Jeep Gladiator Bestop teaser concept: folding soft cover / shell / topper for Gladiator bed 1607547583205

The height is tailored specifically to the Gladiator, it's not like we're putting a different truck's Supertop on here. It should sit perfectly.
