FYI: Grade 8.8 metric is not the same as grade 8 english.
It's actually about the same hardness as your typical hardware store grade 5.

Right, still hardened fastener on a plastic bracket...
Hardened as it's the basic standard hardness bolt, and likely the softest grade metal fastener used anywhere on any vehicle in the plant. Going softer would actually cost more, and would have been even more likely to break removing it.

Yeah, there's a lot of confusion on bolts, metric vs. SAE, hardness, some equate that to brittle (mistakenly).
Class 8.8 is similar to grade 5. It's zinc plated for moderate corrosion resistance. A tempered medium carbon steel.
For tensile strength the grade 5 is actually higher than class 8.8
