Black Bear Pass in a Gladiator with 40s.

Has anyone here done Black Bear pass in a gladiator running 40” tires? Looking to go later this summer, but I’m not sure it’s feasible with the limited turning radius you get when you have 40” tires.

Gladiators are great at 41 point turns. 40’s or no 40’s. Just take it slow and don’t accept pressure to go faster from anyone behind or in front of you. Drive your drive. You control your pace. Slow and steady wins the race.

I understand from what I read you may never again travel Black Bear again Colsed for the year.The country Sheriff closed it last year and I hear again this year.

Probably should look at some of the other threads, Black Bear was opened by the county last week.

Do you have a Tazer Mini? There are some features with the Tazer that will help:
- Line Lock – lock the front brakes (allows a rear dig)
- Turn Assist – lock the inside back tire for sharper turns

I would avoid front digs on most of the trails in Colorado. Most of them are rocks which once you start doing that will tear the trail up. That is even before you start taking in consideration wear and tear on tires and driveline. The tightest switchbacks in Colorado are on Black Bear. All of them can be done with 4 point turn in Gladiator. Once you tear that road up with front digs it will screw a lot of people that will use the trail after you until it is fixed before next season.... and how it is been, the trail needs to be taken care of as much as possible since it is in high danger of being closed.

THANK YOU!!!! I couldn’t agree more. Just do your multi point turn. No one is in a hurry. We all want a shot at that and other trails.

Yes. You’re using abs to lock up the rear wheels, so you’re dragging them on the trail, which quickly erodes it.

We are going on Labor Day weekend. You should be fine. I’ve seen tundras and F150s do it with no issues

I did it in a 1995. 1500 Chevy PU with a topper on back, it was much worse then. I had to do a triple back up on the first left turn past the stairs and the same on the first right turn after the water crossing.
The flatbed tours go over it .
