Hello all, beginning this thread as I started my bed rack build from scratch. This is ongoing, so I will post pics and answer questions as I go. After having the tonneau brackets for another bed rack, I decided to just build one myself and save some money. Here’s the start….

This looks great!! Looks like it should have a higher capacity than most manufactured ones.
Can't quite see the tops, but might think about some gussets.

Yea, I actually have thought about adding gussets. The legs are at a 30 degree angle and haven’t decided if I am going to mount anything exceptionally heavy on it yet either.

Got around to getting some more work done on the rack. Have all three legs tacked up. Starting to gain form.

Following as well. Love the DIY projects. I'm hoping to build my own aluminum rack this summer that fits over my Softopper for hauling our kayaks.

I think I am going to build mine out of aluminum square tubing to keep the weight down.

All I have is a MIG welder right now, but trying to decide to get a TIG or a spool gun for the MIG....

Hey man! I was checking in on this build. Did you ever get this thing lined out? I am gonna be building one before too long. Going on a trip later this summer and need to get it done before we take off.

Hey there, yea hoping to get it all together this weekend. Works been non stop since end of December so haven’t had a ton of time on my hands to do projects. I’ll post it up after completion.

I get it. Mine is ramping up right now as well. Im hoping I can work on it a few hours a weekend and have it done before the trip. What angle did you set your vertical posts to?

30 degrees. I’ve had to change a couple things since my original plans. After I am done, I will sand blast the entire thing and have it powder coated. I still need to drill holes in the vertical posts to mount f.e.and a couple other things. I haven’t decided if I want to mount snowboard racks to the top or to the sides either.
