1. It's an Aisin transmission built in Japan. The transmission itself is fantastic. I've owned a few Aisins over the years and have always found them wonderful. Just because jeep paired a poorly matched clutch doesn't mean the transmission itself is anything approaching hot garbage. It's fantastic

2. "Possibly the best automatic transmission ever made" is a title that belongs to ZF transmissions built by ZF in Germany. Unless you have a diesel (which gets a proper german-built ZF) your transmission is a ZF-licensed design built by Chrysler.
1.Your 5th and 6th gears are effectively the same ratio no matter who built it
2. The zf designed 8 speed is still one of the best transmissions ever made, no matter who built it. Last I checked the test of the Jeep was also built by Stellantis and the common failures only seem to plague the manuals as far as transmissions go?

IMHO, one of the best transmissions ever built and put into a Jeep was the AX-4 that was in my '93 Grand Cherokee Laredo. Very strong transmission.

I did a 4 peat. 74 CJ-5 Renegade Yellow, 75 CJ-5 Renegade Levi Blue, 76 CJ-5 Renegade Red. All new, could sell each for close to what I paid, then not much difference to move up. I then bought back my 74 from the fellow I had sold it to.
My 2021 Sport S Max Tow Selec Trac Sarge Green ordered to my specs, I don’t intend to replace as it has only 31K on it and you have to spend a lot more to have Select Trac now.
I might add leather to the front seats soon though.

I knew it was coming, but my kid moved out and took the ‘20 model Sport S.
I soothed the loneliness by purchasing a ‘24 Mojave X!

Had a 2022 JTR 6MT, traded in for a 2024 JTRX 6MT because I wanted the extra features the X trim and the last year of the stick ( at least as far as we know)

Custom ordered my 2020 Rubicon Gladiator and took delivery in May 2019. It was decent but had the usual first year issues of loose steering (steel steering box TSB fixed), rear window leak and a once every six month random misfire code that would set. When they did the rear window fix, found out later they cracked my hardtop and moved on to a 2021 WILLYS.

Bought my 2021 WILLYS Gladiator during the covid market mess when Carmax gave me like 90% of what I paid for my 2020 Rubicon and I was able to roll into my 2021 WILLYS with no out of pocket and getting it at Affiliate Rewards pricing.

Bought my 2022 Rubicon Gladiator still riding the covid market and getting a decent buy offer again from Carmax for my 2021 WILLYS. Got into this one for a couple thousand out of pocket. Probably put the most mods into this one with the AEV lift, 35's and few other things.

Last December, took a step back and got into a 2025 Sport Gladiator basic model last December.

4 Gladiators in 6 years is not something I would say is normal, but having them paid off and kiting high equity during the covid market, Affiliate Rewards, not paying any ADM and getting decent markdowns at least for the 2025, I was able to accomplish this.

2014 Cherokee sport up to 2022 ordered gladiator Rubicon diesel, Spartan on the features, just what I really wanted. I intend to drive it till it quits and there's another diesel option, or if nuclear or hydrogen catches on and it puts up the performance.

@Hootbro. I knew you had a couple I didn't realize you had 4 now. If you get 5 is the 6th free?

Leased a '20 Sport S with a soft top. Traded in a RAM 1500 and a Camaro 'vert. I needed a truck and wanted a vert. The JT was just the ticket.

Thinking it was a 36 month lease, and I was loving the Jeep, I started looking for another Gladiator. Found a '23 Mojave with the soft top, and everything else that I wanted, so I bought it. Then I found out that my lease was 42 months. So, I had two Gladiators for 6 months or so.

Would buy another Gladiator, but I find myself needing/wanting a real truck. Might get a RAM 2500 to do truck stuff. Sure, my Mojave does truck stuff, but with a bigger bed, I could do even more truck stuff.

The TSB for rebuilding the 850RFE suggests it fails somewhat often.

Question is how often? 🤷‍♂️ I see a ton more people complaining about the cam/lifter engine issues than about the transmission.

Without data on either, hard to figure out scope as a percentage of what is out there.

That's why it's a tsb not a recall like the clutches. Frequency and severity of issue factors in heavily in the difference between the 2.

I don't know at what point they decide a TSB is warranted or what factors it's based on, but often TSBs are for more common problems.
That TSB is for the specific transmission used in the short-lived 3.6 liter etorque. Not our trucks.
The TSB I'm referring to is for the Gladiator.

Here is a thread where a member had theirs rebuilt:
