I have an older camper shell, just want to make the 3rd brake light work. Hook up light to battery = lights.
I have (+) from the trailer plug green & yellow.
I have a logic module, green & yellow in, red & black out.
Wired everything up and it worked for a day, now tailgate 3rd brakelight And camper shell brakelight isn't working ?
Unplugged everything, tested camper light = seems to work fine.
Tailgate brake light still no work.
Unplugged tailgate brake light & plugged it back in = nothing.
Disconnected battery to reset everything, still no tailgate brake light.

I got frustrated & went to work on other stuff, as I type this I see I could plug it back in & see if a different light would work from the logic module. But that doesn't explain the tailgate brake light? I haven't touched anything near it, only plugged into the trailer plug.
Any ideas??

Thanks-

It could be an issue with the computer and the additional draw created by the light.

I used a Curt harness to connect my backup lights to the trailer wiring instead of the truck wiring that is monitored.

This connects to the back of the trailer plug in the bumper.

I’m following you, but I am using the OEM 4-pin trailer plug with the green & yellow going into the module. Other than being on the ā€˜other’ side of the bumper is it not the same wires?
I was planning to get the same ā€˜tap-in’ plug but I had a 4-pin pigtail handy.

That is the same trailer wiring, and should not have had any effect on the light in the tailgate. It could just be coincidence that the light picked now to fail. My only suggestion is the standard check all the fuses, wiring, and connections.

Apparently, the connection on the back of the circuit board in the tailgate light is prone to failure. I have never checked mine, I don't know if it still works.

sorry i'm not familiar with these sort of harnesses:
- so this plugs into the back side of the harness aka under the bed?
- you can still use the OEM trailer plug when towing
- how do you tap into the harness to power a 3rd brake light exactly?

The 56584 harness connects between the trailer plug and factory wiring. It provides a five pin connector with the Tow Wiring for lights. The 58540 harness breaks it out into the separate lines. I used it to connect the reverse lights I added. It should work for a brake light.
