One ledge I climbed in Cougar buttes.
I had to rotate the first section to normal because my cameraman didn’t know to keep his phone vertical. He made it look like I was climbing a straight vertical wall.

If you’re referring to the Christmas trees they were already decorated. I just added one decoration. It’s part of the fun on these old California trails.

I'm with Antwon on this one, while I appreciate a lot of the weird shit I find out in the California and Nevada deserts, stuff like this just becomes trash blowing around and polluting some of the last places you can find solitude. Hanging plastic chickens on the sign to Chicken Corner is another good example - these are not long standing traditions, they started as Instagram Bait and they need to go away.

Me too. I’ll never go back. On trips when I’m alone and don’t want to bring the RTT trailer, I like my cot tent.

Gents, I've been looking at cot tents today when I've had a few minutes. I've had a roof top tent in past rigs and know what I'm in for with those. I'm a reluctant camper. My wife and I are headed out with a youth group for 3 nights this year where the cot tent could come in pretty handy.

1) do the cot tents have a sleeping pad in them? Can you fold up a sleeping bag in with them like a roof top tent?

2)I have the aforementioned 3 nights (I can suffer through a good ground tent and sleeping pad I have for three nights---I bought the sleeping pad to use on the Rubicon a few years ago when my wife came with) but also have 2, 3 and 3 other nights where a RTT would be just great


Is there a cot tent with a sleeping pad in it that I can fold up bedding in it that will fit in the JT truck bed? I love the fast deploy of the RTT.


With the RTT: I've only had the fold out tents. I'm pretty intrigued by the vertical tents. If I buy a new RTT, I'm planning on the alum shell. What are the advantages of a wedge type tent vs a fold out (CVT or ARB Simpson type) vs a pop-up/vertical unit?

I don’t know about others, but I don’t think I could fold mine with a sleeping bag or pad in it. But it opens so easily that it doesn’t bother me. I do use a pad and bag in it. I’m often plenty warm and just sleep in a completely open bag. The brand is Kamprite.

This is the one I have. This one is reasonably big folded, but is ultra fast to setup. My impression is that the compact ones take longer to setup, but take up less space packed.

For storage it will go on top with all the bedding stuff rolled into a wax canvas tarp to keep dust and weather off. It’s kinda like a RTT.

Actually this is my preference with the king cot. The bunker would be cool for a night or 2 but if you’re out longer you’ll want the room at night.

That's a pretty ideal size for the JT bed. I would snag it if the entry for it was on the end (not possible with the support there)

Camping on the Mogollon Rim north of Payson AZ. About 100 ft from the 700 ft drop so a good breeze most of the time. Campsites are unlimited up here, being the Coconino National Forest. I don't do fires, maybe charcoal if a steak is handy.

Nice setup!! Do you have any closer pictures of that rack on the bed cap? That’s a different looking one for me but I like what I can see of it.
