I have the vertical-pop up RTT on the way. We'll see how it goes. 3 nights this year, my wife and I will be in a traditional ground tent. I have an Exped pad (i think that's the brand?) that I bought 8-9 years ago when she decided to come on a Rubicon trip that we'll use for the ground tent.

The RTT will work great for Hole in the Rock, Rubicon and the couple other trips this year. After having 2 camp nights last year and zero the year before that, I will have 10-11 plus this year. We'll see how things go.

The RTT will mount to a JT removable rack I made a few years ago. I can use the removable rack in the Gladiator, my F350 (not likely) or strap it down on my gooseneck trailer and use it there (might happen for a.night or two?). We'll see if I'm too old to manhandle the rack/tent combo around?
A friend has a vertical roam that they really like. I’m sure it’ll work out great. Enjoy.

My wife says I can fall asleep on a sidewalk, I told her I'm former military, I can rack-out anywhere. With that being said, I am not as young, no where near as in shape. Yes, I can still crap out anywhere, but comfortably ? Nope. I need to lay down to truly sleep, not just knock out a few Z's.

One time while sitting on the living room floor assembling something, I laid back to stretch out my back. My wife came home and thought I died. I fell asleep. She couldn't believe at dozed off on the floor.
I too, can relate.

Looks nice and peaceful.
About 10 years ago, I tried to get the wife to let me buy some land around the Golden Valley area. She said "that's out in the middle of nowhere."
I said, "EXACTLY!" She didn't go for it.
Recently she almost admitted I was right and that we should of.

Your wife said you were right?? Really wow , that’s incredible!
Years ago I saw an ad at a camper dealer for a old camper we could use for Kayak tournament trips, mentioned it to Pat , she said that seems like a good idea, she never heard to door close and was amazed when I called and said we just bought the camper I’m at the dealer an hour away!

So are you looking for land again , she did say you were right, life is short bud!….Jack

There’s still plenty of land available out there.

Sent my wife and daughter to P.R. for Mother's Day, so the wife could visit her mother and sisters. I turned Mother's Day weekend into "brother's day" getaway and went to Fairy Stone State Park in Virginia.

Just an update on my setup. I did purchase a Rogue RTT from a vendor local to me (Salt Lake City) after having some shipping challenges. I used the tent for a short notice trip to Moab a while back.

I made the rack a while back when I was testing out an old school Mombassa. It's about perfect for this tent.

Tent deploys within about 30-45 seconds. Unlatch, lift the lid and let the struts (we'll see how long those last?) do their thing, pull a hoop into place and secure two struts to the hoop.

Tent packs down within 3-4 minutes once I get all my junk out of there.

My current issues are coming up with a WARM sleeping system. I bought a Zenbivvy quilt for it's compaction. That will get put in the tent as I leave the house for a trip.

We'll see how things go.

Secondarily, the rack/tent will work on my gooseneck for other uses.

I do NOT plan to cook, have fires, or any of the other traditional camp things from this rig. Maybe that evolves, maybe it doesn't? There would be plenty of room in the rack for those extra things but I'm already pushing 220-230 lbs with the rack/tent. I could put other items in bins or similar to secure to the truck bed (maybe not such a good solution on an open center deck trailer)

Could you send my wife and kids to P.R. so I could do the same thing please?

I tried to wrap my mind around having an RTT on my vehicle all the time but I just can't. So I try to do it as simple as I can. This is in my old Gladiator. Have not taken the new Mojave out for a camping trip yet. Foam mattress for the truck bed, a sleeping bag, meat for the fire, a cooler full of treats and adult beverages and I'm gone...

Those are pretty slick. Like you say, a simple solution and you're off the ground. I personally prefer that for cleanliness. If someone is looking for a tent like that, I have one that needs a new home. They're actually pretty cool leveraging the tailgate like they do. Just longer to setup that I'm willing to spend.
