Can a full OBDII interface + app do everything a TAZER can (and more)? OBDLink, JSCAN

I have read the TAZER does some cool, practical things that seem simple like: Disable the 3-honk thing, turn on the rear camera when using the blinker, disable Auto Stop/Start, etc. Things I'd like to enable right away.

Can I do the same things with something like OBDLink MX+ JSCAN ?

I'm trying to wrap my head around the differences between the two. It seems like the TAZER is more convenience stuff, while a full OBDII interface has more overall functions and is more 'powerful' if you need more options later on?

Thank you!

No. JSCAN and others don't send CAN bus messages on the fly to intercept annoying things that aren't BCM settings.

They aren't competing solutions in the way you might be imagining. I have and use both on occasion.

You are correct; for most purposes, the Tazer is more convenient. That doesn't necessarily mean less powerful. It lives hidden in the Jeep full time, does not occupy my OBD port (I use the port for the connection to my steps), and provides things called "Live" settings that persist as long as the Tazer is installed. Mostly things that aren't feasible or possible with any of the OBDII adapter/phone combinations.

My OBDII MX+ with AlfaOBD (or JSCAN in your case) has tons more functionality and offers a much more standard and logical interface. AlfaOBD has pages and pages of things to affect. Want to test individual wiper motors? Sure. Need to add proximity locks? Done. Force regen on our ecodiesel? Yep. It's most useful when I need to do more meaningful troubleshooting or simply want to tinker with things using an interface on my phone and not the clunky method of steering wheel button presses the Tazer requires.

There are quite a few threads on here and elsewhere about the exact thing you are asking, though, no need to take my word for it. If you are asking someone to decide for you, buy the Tazer first.
