Also the reality that younger drivers are not wanting to start driving paired with over regulation will lead to a 2030 where it could be very likely it is illegal for you to take a motorized vehicle on public roads.

"TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION" is theft . . . Have you checked on ALL your Local State AND Federal "REPRESENTATIVES" in how they've voted on taxation ballots & initiatives "on YOUR behalf" ? Something we should ALL do if we're wanting Less tax ! Just ask your WEALTHY Neighbor down the street how he is Truly Thankful He has been given "New Life" thanks to the nearly 2 Billion Dollar Tax Break on the Wealthiest Americans ! Your not "stupid," you know it takes money in a "free capitalist society" to RUN THINGS - Roads comes to mind . . . how you gonna get to "work" without drivable roads that don't cause you to loose control or damage your vehicle ? Just one simple example . Of Course the "issue" is way more complex, . . . so the "Politicians" would have us believe . . . all in the name of their self interest in Remaining in Office (jobs-for-life program?) and (not) doing the "Peoples-Business".

He's outraged about how inflation has driven the price of a Mazda 3 from $23k to $28k. sounds like a #realworldproblem. Cars and trucks over $35k aren't a neccessity, rather a luxury. If you can't afford to pay off the vehicle at the time of purchase or very soon there after, you should't buy it.

I tend to agree . . . and his point about "YOUR" young-ones about to enter into the semi-adult world of driving is insightful . Wish some 3rd party Non-Profit would come up with the research / data on the why's for the delays in buying & driving ! The Findings could be quite startling and eye opening into the Condition of our Society today and for the near future . . . socially and economically . ( I use "your" and not "our" because I do not have children )

What we should and shouldn't buy - Mazda 3 or Maserati - gets complicated when ones Ego gets involved over ones common sense, or lack of ! ? Been there, done that back in the day .

MANY GOVERNMENT PROGRAMS initiated decades ago, by both political parties, are so engrained in our daily lives, for the "general welfare" (think Constitution) . Of course Spending vs. balancing a budget has become such a political football for so long it's become a political nightmare to get any common sense approach to solve . . . ! OUR "Social Programs" tend to do way more good than not for those of us less unable - for whatever reasons. I bet, unless your one of the lucky ones, that any number of our Governments "Social Programs" is or has had a positive affect in your (or families) life. Social Security, which I've paid into all my working like (which SHOULD make me "entitled" to the LAWs requirement of payback) has certainly Improved MY Life the past 3 years ! Without it I wouldn't even be considering buying a JT . . . simple fact.
As it were, my Navy Military Retirement & subsequent Military Disability "taxation discount" - in a sense - are "Social Entitlements" I "earned" over the course of 20 years (Navy). Is it because it's a "Military Thing" that makes this OK ?
How's that 401K thing working for those who have them ? ANY Time any one relies on someone else to make you "easy money" - it's ALWAYS at a cost (to you - No Free Lunch here) . Those Brokers charge you a "nice" (for them) FEE -so they can retire in style someday. That FEE could be Yours IF you chose a different path; such as I did with Fidelity. NO, I have NO affiliation, just a former Very Happy Customer .
[On personal note, that is why I chose Fidelity Investments Mutual Funds as my "free money" maker. No Load Funds are very inexpensive, and the Free advice helps, and makes it easily possible to Vastly Improve your "Free Money" SAVINGS, on your own !] .
I have NO Doubt, that if the "shoe" were on your foot, you would be very thankful for whatever safety net to help you get over the painful reality you were dealt ! IMHO. I feel that new taxes may not be the solution, that Redirecting the existing taxes, for the good of the Country, is warranted and many of the "Haves" have expressed their "willingness" to Extend that helping hand, for the good of "the Common Good". One area that has gotten WAY OUT OF CONTROL is our Military "Social Welfare" spending Programs - many of which are PORK-Barrel ADD-Ons via "your" Politicians ! In the name of JOBS JOBS JOBS, back in their districts . This Country could EASILY cut the Military Budget by an insignificant 10% to 20% . . . and redirect those BILLIONS to secure the "general welfare" . . . and more ! Or, create Tens of thousand of Environmentally Friendly Jobs & Careers . . . helping to solve those Issues .

Last I checked (yesterday), despite all that the Trump administration has done to diminish the quality of life for all Americans, the undoing of many vital environmental safety measures - this is fact, not fiction and can readily be looked up, the "economic indicators" are at a 3.2% GDP ! However this is NOT, let me repeat . . . this GDP is NOT an indication that America has a growing vibrant middle class ! Now That is also NOT a "political opinion" of mine - simply FACT - again easily researched . I encourage EVERYONE to seek the truth, before spouting some things you've perhaps been incorrectly led to believe . . . over, and over, and over , and over . . . again . Just a General Suggestion to ALL, not a "slight" toward you or anyone .
Again, I try to keep things as apolitical as possible, not an easy task . Glad you mentioned "saving the planet" . . . that IMO, is the Conundrum of this Century ! My question is . . . how long will WE allow OUR politicians to keep "kicking the can" down the road ? To the point where there is no longer a road to travel ? Global warming - largely impacted by OUR activities, and Climate Change, a WEATHER phenomena impacted by the FACT that the Earth IS Warming - just another one of those FACTS easily available, if you want the TRUTH .
ALL of us SHOULD want the truth . . . this way we can "demand" our politicians "DO THE RIGHT THINGS" ! IMO, UNFORTUNATELY . . . Earth Day #1 was in 1970 (wow, 49 years ago - shit I really am old) and that was our "wake-up moment" ! But virtually no one was listening or cared to believe any of the "forward thinkers" ( I was concerned but felt ignorant and powerless and so I simply just carried on with my ignorance and kicked my can along like everyone else ).

I think roads ina Jeep community might be a bad example. I mean come on we are the ones who much prefer the “road” less traveled. I am in iceland now and turning right onto 2 lane wheel tracks rather than taking a road has been a trend :-D

I came to not like who I was because of all that "hatred" inside my head ! Best thing for me was to "escape," so I left - "Go out West," and so I did . THUS, 30-something came around and I felt myself changing (for the better) and have learned to try not to "Judge".

Now THIS experience (this thread) has unexpectedly become Very Cathartic for me !
