Anybody have service electronic throttle control and or electronic stability control lights go on engine going up hill at freeway speeds?
It always seems to happen when I go to Tahoe and now again up the Grape Vine. It almost always does it while in cruise control. When going down I was cruise control at 70 and unit lights went on and speed dropped to 50, coming home it did it while I was using my foot on the go the pedal this time 65 dropped to 50. It’s been to the shop a few times and they never can figure it out!! :(

Look at the gauges when this happens. Pushing the little diesel hard the oil temps tend to spike at 250 degrees plus and this in turn send water temp up as well. We had this issues this summer heading to the Rubicon with our Diesel rigs, just had to drop a gear or two and watch oil and water temps.

Since it was 41 degrees out I doing think that was the problem but to be honest I don’t reserve the oil temp. But pressure was good

Check on top of your low pressure EGR tube flange, located above the forward end of the DPF. There is a wire harness that's known to improperly rest atop this flange and when it gets overheated by the exhaust will cause a number of electrical faults to pop up on the dash (such as the SET warning) and drop the engine into limp mode as you describe.

That bracket has rubbed through a few wiring harnesses. The first year diesels were the most effected.

Do you have a code reader? Check for P00AF and P206D codes - if so, this is due to the turbo boost actuator not matching expected position. Some people have managed to get a turbo replaced under warranty with this. It has hit me, but only when climbing slowly on steep grades in hot weather at high altitude.

Sucks for the engine to derate when you need it - but I have found that if you stop, close and lock the vehicle long enough for it to fully sleep (like more than 5 minutes), the derate will clear and you can drive again normally. After ~5 restarts with no repeat problem, the CE light will clear itself too.
