Just went by a dealer to finally test drive the ecoDiesel and tried talking price with them. It did not get anywhere good.

Best I got on a custom order (without being too pushy) was $1,000 over invoice, plus dealer fees ($1,100) and delivery. "This is a great price - you see we only make $1,000 on it!!"

So I think I'll stick with an out-of-state dealer and maybe give these local guys a shot to price-match once I have something good in writing. Anyone have success with that kind of thing? Or have a good recommendation for an Illinois dealer? I just don't want to have to worry about paying taxes as a separate transaction; I'd rather have them rolled into the financing - unless financing works like an escrow account? IDK, only ever paid cash and stayed local. Got some figuring out to do in the next few months here.

In other news, that JTRD was friggin amazing. I can still hear it....

Wickstrom Jeep in Barrington IL are pretty honest, Samantha the sales manager there is hosting our Cub Scout Pinewood Derby next month too. I feel like all the dealerships in Chicago proper are con-artists.

That said it doesn't hurt to get a quote from multiple places.

I purchased from Taylor Jeep in Bourbonnais, IL. Didn't have much luck negotiating with the Cook and Lake County dealers. Taylor gave me a fair price on the Jeep and a great price on my 2011 Ram trade-in. Did the whole deal via phone and text.
