Put about 70 miles on it yesterday on the freeway. Lights are all out so there’s that. Smoother idle.
Unfortunately my coolant seems to be slowly going somewhere. I know there was some kind of venting from the reservoir because you could see it on the cat, egr cooler etc. I replaced the cap but there is a static leak of some type as it slowly drops just sitting. No spotting on the floor sooooo.
if it turns out to be the head or block, I may be looking for a different engine option.
Mean time, drive it till it blows. And yes, I will keep topping off the coolant in the mean time.

It's not uncommon for these to have a leak at the bottom where the hose connects to the reservoir. Ask Kevin in Canada and 2 or 3 others about that area.

Roger that. I pulled that out of the bracket previously and no cracks. That’s when I replaced the cap.

I did notice yesterday after stopping at Oreillys and leaving it running when I went in, a puddle with dripping from the front of the engine. After getting home, I looked underneath and it had stopped but you could see obvious signs of leaking around the pump. Cant tell if it’s the pump or a line, too much crap in the way.

Im certainly amazed at how many coolant lines are on here. Aside from the obvious heater lines, there are lines going to the rear of the trans for the heat exchanger, and lines running to the EGR cooler. This thing is a leak waiting to happen. If only I could fit Shaddow Papa’s Straight six in this thing……..

10-4 on the maze of coolant lines. If that impresses you, I should show pictures of our 4xe cooling systems - as in plural. OMG!

I had to do the water pump at 118k now the anti freeze will leave a tell tale sign of dried pinkish fluid as it is flung onto the engine from the weep hole. The bearings for the impeller go out usually not in a huge way but they get slack.. after removal you could just wiggle it a mighty small amount back and forth . You will never be able to feel slack in the pulley wheel in the pump with it still on the engine as the tensioner will pull hard on the belt .let me see if I can find pics. Of my repair .
Additionally . While you have the pump off for replacement you will be way way ahead to do the thermostat housing and temp sensor. ( they come together when purchased) only 2 lines on the water pump itself. One bigger on on the thermostate housing. The hoses on the waterpump aren't too bad but the 2 hoses on the thermostat housing was good and stuck was a lot harder to get loose especially the big one.

Oh the additional piece you see laying there between the alternator and thermostat housing/ temp sensor is the vacuum pump that kicks in during a stop/ start event that holds the vacuum on the brake booster. It has to be removed to do what ya gotta do
