Is this the reason you bought your Rubicon Gladiator? I often wonder about current collectibles from the past.

Vehicles are not a good investment. If you want to gamble, buy a fully loaded Rubicon. Drain the fuel, put blocks under the frame to keep it off the floor, and put it in a climate-controlled storage for about thirty years.

I bought my Overland to drive. Potential future value was not part of the consideration.

Vehicles are not a good investment. ...............
Yeah, I recall some of the old American Pickers episodes where they bought vehicles thinking they could turn a profit - hahaha, didn't happen in any episode I can recall.

Articles like in the original post are speculation. The editors said "we need something to fill this spot".
I wonder why they mention the 'early-build models' in saying "especially the early-build models"- what's special about them? (other than clutch issues, steering issues, HVAC issues)

What's up with "why it took Jeep so long to bring back Wrangler-based pickup.
All I can think of is the 2005 concept vehicle - that has to be it as it's the only thing "Wrangler-based" pickup Jeep ever came up with. Plenty of reasons it took so long, IMO.

I take all of this sort of article with a grain of salt. It reminds me of all of those "worst automotive failures" articles where some of the SAME vehicles are seen being called successful, ahead of their time, etc. in other expert articles.

Maybe my Overland will become a collectible. Assembly of it started on 3/28/2019.

While it's arguing semantics, the CJ-8 was just a CJ-7 with a bed and since the CJ-7 came immediately before the Wrangler, one could argue that the CJ-8 was a "Wrangler Pickup".

My ‘68 Bronco begs to differ.

But was it ever finished?
Assembly started on mine November 2019 - it's still not done.

There's a point there, I guess.

Well, the factory finished their part. It's been 27 months, and I'm still not done with it.
