Many have done it in gladiators. You just can’t have any pride about multi point turns.

Full size unmodded trucks have done the pass. You just have do a bunch of turns on the first few switch backs (think dry turns). The Steps also just need specific wheel placement, don't go too high. There is a video on YouTube of a Subaru doing it as well. People just get scared of the heights, otherwise this would be a fairly easy trail. Just be careful because mistakes can be deadly.

I don’t want to be a downer or discourage anyone, personally I’m a bit scared of Black Bear. This video is a big part of the reason why.

I don’t know anything about the circumstances but I hope the occupants were somehow ok. As in where ejected or bailed out at the top.

If I recall, it was a failure to confirm e-brake engagement. In shelf roads , just quadruple check things before taking your foot off the brake and exiting.

really? Amazing the cost of such a simple mistake, yet I think what you are saying is no one was hurt? Still a shitty day and also a close call for the dude filming. What if he was 20 feet further down the road? Would have never seen it coming.

Super scary. I saw another video, not black bear, where someone with a manual on a deceivingly easy uphill climb, rolled back at bit and rolled many times. They had their wheels turned when they slid back a bit. Off camber and up hill. It was over fast. I won’t even get out of the jeep on a decent incline or decline unless I’m against something that’ll prevent it from moving. Scary stuff for sure. But I’m definitely in for black bear. It needs to be respected and driven with focus. No taking your eyes off the road, no alcohol, and the people in the other vehicles should be trusted friends with common sense.

Text at the end of the video indicates a woman “sustained serious injuries.”

Any event like that is horrific. But preventable. Sometimes preventable equates to not doing a trail like black bear without lots of experience and an intimate knowledge of your rig.
