To be fair, I had a soft topper on the bed which does indeed make it look like a stretched out wrangler

I had been looking online for a Mojito Gladiator. I only found one within several hundred miles at the dealership in Reno. When I showed up a salesman asked me if I was looking for anything in particular. I glanced around the very extensive inventory, yes that one over there. It is easy to find in a parking lot.

I usually get "They made that with a diesel?!" or in one case, someone trying to "help" me by telling me I'm putting the wrong fuel in my truck. Unfortunately, my truck is Sting Gray, which was my second most disliked color choice after black; but it was either get the engine and all the equipment I wanted or the color, couldn't have both. The problem with being painted in "glossy concrete" is that it's basically invisible.

I should really add some vinyl go-fast-stripes or something.

We were in a very similar case with both of ours. Went looking for a diesel Wrangler. There were supposed to be within 250 miles of us. Only 2 had close to the right options. Called about the red one first. Salesman said it was supposed to be there mid-week, but honestly, he couldn't guarantee it. He said he's seen them show of over a month late. Thanked him for his honesty and called about the other one. They had it on the lot and told the gal we were on our way. She said it was grey, I said it doesn't matter. We want it for the diesel. My wife and I both had different ideas of what it would look like. Ended up being Sting Grey.
Pretty similar deal with our Gladiator, salesman looked all over for a diesel with the options I wanted. Came close with a Willys, but the dealer that had it wouldn't budge on price, marked up $4k for tire and wheel, and wouldn't toss in the stockers. Ended up looking further out and found a Sting Grey Rubicon with almost everything I wanted. I had to add heated seat and remote start.

We prefer to call it "Battleship" Grey, more people tend to get the reference I do like that it changes shades depending on the light.
Honestly, I would have preferred Firecracker Red for the Wrangler and Hydro Blue for the Gladiator.
But now we have matching Jeeps and our newest toy, an RZR, matches with the same color also. All 3 are just by happenstance. We picked by options and trim, not color.


And yes we get compliments on both. Not as many as when they were new. Especially when people figured out they were diesels. Early on we had more than one gas jockey freak out when I was putting diesel in my Jeep.

I call mine the HMS Gladiator because it has the turning radius of a battleship - at least it feels like it after owning my Xterra

Not really, but around here there will be three Jeeps at every red light so they don't really stand out much.

I don’t get many random compliments from strangers anymore, but pretty much all of my friends have randomly told me how much they like my Jeep a time or two. When I first got mine, I constantly got compliments on it.

Get way more when the bed's loaded than when it's empty. Gear strapped down makes people assume you're headed somewhere better than they are.

I get compliments frequently and mainly cause the hydro blue is awesome and reasonable enough people can imagine owning it compared to some of the more wild colors

Lots of complements. It seems I get more complements when she is durty. Not muddy all over, just trail dust with some mud kickback off the tires.
After a wash, I only get complements from the mini-van crowd.
Some of my friends who are parents of teens close to their driving years do not like me, because their kids want Jeeps.

My wife and I both get a ton of compliments, the colors are a bit reason why but being doorless and topless they stand out even more as being 'fun' which they are.

I thought once the model started aging they would stop. They keep flowing. The only major change is I live in NJ now. Now that I think about it, most Gladiators I see around here are bone stock.
