On a pretty regular basis I get the message on the touchscreen, "Connected services requires service. Please visit an authorized dealer", and the lights on the overhead assist and SOS buttons turn red. Click ok to dismiss the message, and a bit later (minutes or hours) the lights turn green again. I don't use connected services and I won't be renewing the Sirius Guardian once the free trial runs out, but the popup is annoying, especially if I'm using on screen navigation.

Is it just a loss of cell service, or something else? Any way to get rid of it?

It's most likely from poor cell reception. It could also be an issue with the cable, antenna, or head unit.

It’s Jeep Connect (or whatever they call it - it’s similar to ONSTAR - which is a GM thing).

Every vehicle manufacturer has a ’connected services’ system. Each vehicle has a module inside the vehicle that keeps you ‘connected’ to big brother (per say).
That’s why you have the ability to use an SOS button
.. If your truck gets stolen, the police can use this system to track /find it.

It has nothing to do with YOUR cell phone or your cell service. You’re not required to pay for anything for this to be ‘connected’. It has nothing to do with Sirius. It’s connected all the time - unless you physically unplug the module.

If you’re getting warnings about it
. the system is having trouble staying connected to your vehicle. You could take it to the dealership
.and insist they fix it for free. I mean
.it’s something ’big brother’ insists keeping you connected. Otherwise, if they’re gonna charge you to fix it
.. tell them to ‘disconnect it’.
If the SOS feature is important to you
then you probably won‘t mind paying to have it fixed.

If you‘re lucky
it could simply be updated firmware or something IT related.

I understand that it's unrelated to my phone's cell service, but it still uses the cell network (AT&T if I'm not mistaken?). I do live out in the sticks where cell service is spotty, but the warning popup doesn't coincide with places where the cell signal is bad, or in the same place from day to day. So it could be a bad module.

But I thought connected services, including the SOS button (which I couldn't care less about) and the vehicle info going to the Jeep phone app, were all part of Sirius Guardian (not Sirius XM, which is different), which is the one year free trial that I won't be renewing.

Not renewing the subscription really only means that you don't get to use the features. It is still connected and sending data to Jeep. My Sirius cr@p ran out years ago and I will still get emails from them saying that my mileage is "X" and it's time for "X" service.

I would wager that there is something wrong with the module or something related. I mean I go outside of cell range all the time when wheeling/camping and I don't get that message; so I would be inclined to think that it's not related to the vehicle not sensing that it is out of an area of cellular coverage.

I guess I'll ask about it when I go in for the second free oil change.

Dunno if this is related, but in the past few days I've gotten an error when connecting my phone (android auto) saying something about a security issue and the time not matching (and indeed when I look the vehicle click is showing an hour earlier, i.e. not DST). Then it connects and the vehicle clock shows the correct time.

The dealer says it's a "bad radio" that needs to be replaced (under warranty).

It took four visits, but I'm cautiously optimistic that it might be fixed.

First time when I took it in for the oil change, they forgot to look at the electronics. Second visit (scheduled for just this), they said it was a "bad radio" and the service guy who told me that seemed to think it was the head unit (touchscreen) which didn't make sense to me but whatever, they ordered parts. Third visit when the parts came in, they ended up replacing the radio/telematics gateway module... which didn't fix it, the error popped up again before I even left the dealer's parking lot.

The service manager told me he'd had numerous other complaints of the same problem, and that a factory guy was going to visit the next day and he'd discuss it. Called me later that day, said they got the scoop on how to diagnose it, and I scheduled another visit. This time (today) they replaced the antenna which is apparently behind the dash trim (I thought it was in the roll bar?) and they assure me it's fixed. I hope so.
