Just had the dealer install my lift and tires. I was driving back home and on the highway going about 70 mph it just didn't feel planted. I did notice the tires looked a little round on top as if there was a lot of tire pressure and when I checked I saw that there was 55-58 psi per tire. I did a little research and I know there are threads on here discussing it a little bit, but I was wondering if the most accurate way is using the chalk method? I aired down to 30 psi and the handling improved greatly. I'm running 35x12.50 R17 BFG KO2's.. Does this seem about right?

30 is about right. I run my 35x12.50 at 32.

Chalk test tells you what PSI gets you even tread wear. Good starting point, but often a little low for big/wide tires, especially if they are on mounted on wheels that are on the narrower end of the recommended wheel width.

What are you seeing for MPG since you installed larger tires?

Sounds right to me.

I've never tried running my 35" Goodyear DuraTracs at it's max pressure of 60psi. I set them at 30psi cold.

With a few exceptions like the Milestone Patagonias the best way to dial in tire pressure is the Chalk Test.

Very helpful video. Thank you.

Chalk method is the best way to dial in big, wide tires. Been doing it that way for 25 years.

I run my 35x12.5r15's at 28 psi for best tread wear. I give no shits about MPG, or I wouldn't have put on big, heavy tires.

I agree. I think ill do the chalk test sometime this week. I also agree on the MPG. I could care less. I understood when buying all my bricks, lifting my bricks and adding tons of additional drag coefficients to the outside of them.

17 mpg per the dash. Normally light foot driving and not much driving above 65 mph.

It has 3.73 gears. Could definitely use deeper. I’ll probably do 4.88.

Nice, thats what I was getting highway stock. So far ive only put about 50 miles on it and no highway and it says 11.0 city. Im sure its going to take a bit before I know the real average.

Give the chalk test a try and post back with the results.

If it tells you 24-25 or less, probably should go up to 28 or so.

Same tires on stock Mojave Min Tow rims. I'm running 32 cold for summer. I'll probably go to 34 in November.

agree. 35/12.5/17 bfg km2 on my 2dr jk chalked at 26psi. Rode very good on pavement and steering much better as well.
40/13.5/17 milestars on my jt totally different animal. Running 38psi highway and 22psi off. Do not chalk milestars.
