The average arrests associated with NFL football game (inside and out of stadium) are 6.3 arrests. That is with an average attendance of 66,000. So it would average about 10 arrests if there were 100,000 in attendance. A 10 fold increase at the Jeep event. Also a 40 fold increase if compared to the number of daily arrests in the US per 100,000 people. Perhaps I should not be surprised but I guess I expect more out of the Jeep community than a 10 fold increase over an NFL game, or a 40 fold increase over daily life in the US.
Do more math for us all. You are missing the 2 hour game vs a two day event.

Collage games are 7k and NFL is 66k people average. Take into account the arrests of the people attending outside of the 2 hour game (Like all attendees but for the whole weekend) and possibly. We'll never really know. But no I'm not surprised there were 0.125% arrests at a huge multi day party...
Collage games may average 7K, but college games average much more. Much much more than NFL.

This is a big problem everywhere. People just go bonkers. Multiple towns in Florida which used to roll out the welcome mats for college Spring Breakers have recently changed their tunes to, "You are no longer welcome here!".

When I got my Gladiator I asked a fellow Jeep owner if he could recommend any local Jeep clubs. He hesitated and explained that the local Jeep clubs were primarily drinking clubs with a bit of a wheeling problem. No thanks.

I like to enjoy a couple of cold ones. Literally a couple; as in two. And if someone has a few more than that, cool. But I admit I just don't understand people who turn any kind of fun event into binge drinking. If your only objective is to drink until you pass out, then wake up and do it all over, why bother leaving home? I absolutely hate being around drunken idiots. (When I was in the Navy, the minute I went ashore for a port call I would board a train to another town to get away from my fellow squids for that very reason.)

I've talked to people who went on low-cost cruises in the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico. They said they hated it because the instant they left their cabins they were surrounded inebriated assholes. Here again, I don't understand why people would pay good money to board a ship only to get completely pissed and stay completely pissed. (British definition of "pissed" here.)

Yeah, I think I'll stick with very small groups of people I know who aren't drunken morons.

I'm not sure about the other schools, but I hated home football weekends at Auburn when I was in grad school there. Tailgaters started showing up on Tuesday (or, alternatively, never left if there was a home game the prior weekend), and they took up all the parking lots for the students.

On the plus side, they'd usually offer us beer or food as we trudged past on our way to class.

This trend is happening in other venues/areas as well. The recipe seems to be mix copious amounts of alcohol (and/or drugs) with extremely self-centered jackarses (young and old), let it marinate for a couple hours and BAM!

I didn't get much from the article as far as information. A drunk almost killed a cop, what does that have to do with jeeps...Who where these large # of people arrested? Not stipulated. But it WAS jeep weekend so lets blame it on people with Jeeps. Next think you know you will need a back-ground check and a special permit to buy one! LOL.

I just want to drive on the "dirt" with like minded people who loved the Genera, I don't care what you drive as long as you drive safe. All this extra social stuff is ok, "go topless", "Jeeps for Cops", Jeeps that are not for cops - LOL like this article was insinuating, Jeeps who hate tree huggers (they don't like folks who drive in nature as far as I can tell), whatever, to each his own, but I'll pass.

Just want to drive my jeep in the dirt and have fun. ?

Perhaps you should read more about this event from people actually close to the situation and realize that it wasn't the Jeep the community causing any of this. It's been said and posted many times that even though this has been called Jeep Go Topless Weekend or Jeep Weekend, it hasn't been so in Crystal Beach going on 5 years now. It has been run over by 3/4 ton trucks, side by sides, atvs, 4 wheelers, lowriders - mostly driven by young adults and minors that are out to drink, party and raise hell. There was probably less than 10% Jeeps at this beach because we all know to stay away from this one and have moved our event further down the coast to Surfside Beach where we were commended by local law enforcement for keeping things civilized and the beach clean.

This event has been going on for years. It started out as a nice get together for Jeep owners, trying to replicate the Daytona type event. It has become a complete disgrace for Texas Jeep owners. If I were to guess, probably 25% of those who went were actual Jeep owners. The rest are just drunken idiots looking for an excuse to have a beach party.
There is a similar event on the same weekend that is just down the beach about 50 miles where it is attended by 100% Jeep owners. Absolutely nothing out of control happened at that event.
I have a feeling that the one being held at Crystal Beach will be shut down eventually.
This event is actually held at Surfside Beach not crystal beach. The Crystal beach crowd is there because it’s a nude beach. Surfside does not have these shenanigans! Again Surfside is the Official sight. Come have some family JEEP fun in Texas on the beach in Surfside! Matagorda Beach also does this event in an official manner and is just as family friendly. Leave Crystal Beach to the hoodlums.

Now all the hoodlums will go to Surfside. I was right by there we were hanging out at Woody's and San Luis Pass. If they would do the Crystal Beach up right and make some changes to keep all the riff raff away it could be a good event.

The hoodlums will absolutely not go to Surfside. Way too many restrictions/laws for them to be able to act up the way they do at Crystal Beach.

1. Surfside Beach is considered part of the roadway/highway, therefore all laws that pertain to the road, pertain to the beach such as wearing of seatbelts, no drinking and driving, and vehicles must have license plates, inspection, registration, etc.

2. It's a one way beach with only one access that is closely monitored by the local police departments. So, no riding up and down the beach since you have to get off of it and get on the main roadway and loop back around.

3. Since it's only open to road legal vehicles, no side by sides, no golf carts, no atvs, no 4 wheelers, no tractors, etc.

As long as all this stays in place, Surfside will be a much better option for those that want a more relaxed but still fun atmosphere. You can still have a few drinks and have a good time, you just gotta do it within reason.

On these forums, i see a lot more off-roady jeeps than brojeeps. (brojeeps usually skulk away in shame when we don't all love their rubber-banded 22s and underglow)

In person, I see a LOT more brojeeps than off-roady jeeps.

You folks wanna get a forum event together with some crossover from jlwranglerforums.com or fuck it even bronco6g.com or tacoworld (what i'd call a tacoma forum) or somethingsomething4runner.com, i'm down.

But you wont ever see me at a general-public jeep event. WAY too many bros out there.

And it's not just their stupid angry-eye jeeps. Bros are angry confrontational drunks and I don't have time for that bullshit.
I went to Jeep Beach last year....never again. 3 out of 4 Jeeps were brojeeps.....skinny tires...entire tubs or beds turned into giant ghetto boxes and all. Just about every other vendor display in the infield was something geared toward brojeepers.

I would love some type of small gathering somewhere in Florida to goto each year. If I ever win the lottery , Im buying a few hundred acres and setting something up. :)
