Dana 44 wide front axle

Hello , im looking for a dana 44 oem front wide track axle housing, i have everything else from the components just need a housing mine broke in half

did it break at the FAD?

If so you might be able to get a machine shop to turn a sleeve for you, then you can remove the FAD casting and use the sleeve over the axle tube to make axle whole and weld it.

I been running 37s for like 4 months … that’s the only logical way , i heard this stuff happens once you get to the 40s with stock axles but i guess not, i just wish i would of bought the truss reinforcement

I believe it did break next to the FAD , do you think i can do that and reinforce the axle on top? The shaft that camed out of that area i checked it and it’s in perfect condition no damage

anything is possible with a lath and a welder, trick is finding someone who can use one.

Well thankfully i live near the border of mexico and i know good welding shops for cheap, i actually do most of my mods over at mexico, my both axle gear swaps cost me $250 dollars to install and i seen people get quoted 2,000$ for the same job or more

before they go cutting off the casting they will need to establish a measurement of what the gap is between the 2 axle pieces as if the cast was whole, then when they turn shoulders in the sleeve for the tubes the shoulders distance need to be the same as what the casting was.

I also suspect a jig will be needed to hold the wheel end of the tube at the same angle the cast use to.

a jig is something that can hold a piece in place without moving to preserve a distance or angle or both but still allow you to assemble or disassemble some thing. In you case a jig would be used to preserve the oem castor of the axle tube. A machinist should know what a jig is.

I only mention it because if you don't match the original castor angle you will have poor handling truck.

A jig would need to be made before you cut the FAD housing off.
