This is a strange one, but every car/truck that I've had in the past decade dims the dashboard lights automagically when the headlights come on.

I know how to manually turn the brightness up and down, but have noticed that when my headlights come on during the daytime (rain, clouds) the dashboard dims. At night, however, the dashboard is still super bright. I've gone through the owner's manual and the settings, but no matter what I do the dash is super bright at night and I have to manually dim it every, single time.

That gets old.

What am I missing?

Thanks!

My first thought is the headlight-auto-on when wipers are turned on when you mention rain.
So if that happens in the middle of the day your dash would revert to the dimmer setting, which you then increase cause it is day time.

Then at night headlights turn on and your dash goes to the brightness you had it set for the daytime with rain.

I just pulled this picture from the googles...

It's the one on the right (not the one with the arrow pointing to it).

There is a detent at the top of the roller that locks that sumbitch on full blast and it's TERRIBLE at night.

The roller on the right does the dash, you got it locked on.

I do have the headlights set to Auto On. Hmm...

I do have it turned up to the detent right before it turns the overhead lights on. I'll move it out of the detent position to see if it dims at night. Thanks!

BTW, what the hell is that roller in the photo with the arrow pointing to it?

I've spun that on several times trying to figure out what it does, but nothing happens.

Newb owner. My other Jeep is a 1999 Wrangler so these new-fangled options are confusing.

This was on another thread and I think the consensus is noone knows. Supposedly there are LEDs on the floor it is suppose to control. But I don't notice them.

Like mentioned above... there are lights in the footwell/cup holders and that's the dimmer for them.

Got it. Sadly, no footwell light on the Sport S. I should have mentioned the model.

There is a light in your interior door handle too that this controls. At least it's there on the overland anyway, ymmv.
