Now I got bit. 2020 Gladiator Rubicon, got up yesterday, went to start up and no go. A couple short cranks but no go. Waited, thought a minute what next and tried again, It started! Hmm, well I didn't take it for granted as a fluke but it ran well through the day. Went here, went there. started every time. Battery gauge said 14.1 and stayed steady. Each time I use the vehicle I turn on the feature to stop the shut off option when idling. I did buy a booster box as well. Here in Panama I just can't call AAA. Go up this Am, went to start up and nothing again. This time it would not crank. So I jumped it with the booster box, cranked immediately and I got back home from 2 hours away. Ther are no alerts on the dash. I am going to take it to my mechanic as soon as i can get in. My question for anyone is should I just let me mechanic troubleshoot both batteries and see if it's that simple? Or should I guide him through the jeep battery saga as it is told?

Thank you for any advice

I'll bet half of what you read is wrong.
Both batteries are probably end of life - think - that's actually a good life for an OEM battery and you dun good getting this far.

Replace both, CHARGE BOTH BATTERIES before installing them, and move on.

Pushing the button to prevent the engine stopping at a stop light or sign has nothing to do with anything.

I'm going to be really blunt - forget most of what you've read, screw the "Jeep battery saga" as a lot of it is pure unadulterated BS told by people who don't understand electric systems, batteries or anything else about the systems.

You got over 4 years, and that's GREAT. People at a parts store were griping about not being able to get over 4 years out of car batteries these days, you beat the odds.
Get QUALITY batteries installed after they are fully charged correctly.
Move on, enjoy your Jeep.

Thank you. I purchased this babyabout 4 months ago. I don't have history on the batteries. But if you're right so be it. Appreciate your feedback.

To me, anyway, that's more reason to start over with two good quality batteries. Then you know the history.

It may not take much power to start the engine during an ess event, but selecting it off just gives you a little more chance of charging up the batteries. Especially in his case where it didn't fire up the first time.

It should have been a signal for him to look at the batteries right then instead of the "let's wait and see" game.

Reading up on his problem was a good thing to do. Trying to decipher the good info from thw bad info is the trick.

OP... You have good information right here!

That indicates some other issues.
Mine have always been running in about the first revolution, the voltage hardly drops on an ESS restart.
I've yet to own one that didn't fire almost instantly during an ESS restart - a whole lot faster than any cold start (the PCM is ready, knowing crank position, last injector firing and so on)

I would agree. I can see a loose connection cause a no start but on a second attempt the engine fires up. Either way, it's time to look deeper instead of going on.

My son did the same thing this morning. He had been gone for 2 months on that trip I had told you about. I had moved his car a few times to cut the grass. I told him it was a bit sluggish on cranking and he might want to put a charger on it. The little diesel fired up but it turned over slowly. He said stay by the phone and took off. He knows better, but it's his choice. I'll have the charger ready when he gets back.

Follow up results. The repair shop deemed the main battery was bad. Unfortunately I did not ask if they checked the small battery. I did ask if they checked the age of the battery but they didn't. So, I roll on, keeping an eye out on that voltage. I'm back in the US now so when I return the adventure continues.

No one marks the dates on batteries these days.......not sure how they would tell.

And

Mark another one for the main battery going bad
