DEAL OVER - Walmart Tire Deals 2023 - They're at it again... again

My Rubicon has 4.10 gears and does fine with these tires. I used a Tazer to calibrate the speedometer yesterday after getting them put on and dash shows the same as Speed Box does on my phone. Today I reset and used the onboard mileage display for a 60 mile drive. Light wind blowing approx. 6 mph according to the weather channel. Of the 60 miles, 45 were highway at as close to 67 mph as I can hold it and the rest were back roads driving about 45 mph. With the stock Wildpeaks ATs I’d have been a little over 18 mpg and with these I was at 17.7 when I got back to town. There are a lot of small hills here and I’d drop down to 6th gear holding speed going uphill but saw 8th a lot while level or downhill. Not really a complaint but they are louder than the Wildpeaks at 20k but not enough to complain about. The highway ride on these is good. I can feel that they are closer to a mud tire but not in a bad way. I like them and am going to keep them on. I filled up before coming home and will check the mileage against the computer but I expect it to be within a couple of tenths, which how it has always compared.

I'm really glad to hear the highway ride is good, that's where I spend the absolute vast majority of my time.

I'm really *really* hoping they aren't unbearable with the 3.73 + 6 speed trans....

The highway is where I spend most of my time also and my only worry is that they may get loud quickly. The drone isn't bad now but they are definitely louder than the Wildpeak ATs. For the price I am happy with them so far. My 4.10 auto does fine with them. I can tell it takes a little more to get them moving but not bad at all. Hopefully they will do OK on your manual.

My Wildpeaks are all but silent after 5k as far as I can tell, but I also have a softop and a muffler delete so who knows lol

I believe now that my OEM MTs must have been cupped, because those were so loud at 70mph that I could barely hear myself think. As long as these are closer to the Wildpeaks than the mud tires, I suspect I'll be OK

Walmart Kendas now have 20k on them & holding up well. Rode them out to Colorado last year, did Imogene & a couple of other trails, they did great. My local tire shop had no problem balancing them. I should get another 30k out of them. Probably have to pay full price for the next set of 35’s.

Same experience with mine. They’ve been flawless, particularly in heavy rain. A little over 20k miles on mine and they’re finally making some noise on the highway but nothing crazy.

At the end of the day I decided to go with Kanati Mud Hogs in 285/70R17 at $178 each. I wanted a set of 295/70R17 but the ones I was looking at where only 33.3" in diameter. Turns out the Kanatis are listed by the manufacturer at 33" which is bigger than most 285s (32.8). The difference from the 295s and the Kanati 285s was just .3", so I couldn't justify paying much more for the 295s. That being said, I will sell the 5 new Venom Power 35x10.5R17s locally on FB Marketplace since I am not going to install them. Going with 33" for now until I can convince my wife that 37"s, wheels, regearing and Truetracs are necessary. Just got a quote for regearing from Dirty Dog Off Road in ABQ for $2550 including parts. Supposedly they are the only "Master Gear Installer" in NM. What ever that means. The problem is that I would also want the Truetracs @ $700 each, then wheels and tires. Zero chance I get the green light from my wife considering we are building an addition to our house and Xmas is right around the corner. Not to mention that we just bought a chicken coop and a Coleman B200R mini bike. We also have a plethora of projects on the list. Green house, another garage for the tractor, excavator, ATV and we want to finish our 1/4 acre pond next year. I really need to win the lotto.

Not sure where you're at, but greenhouses in certain states can make some pretty good money. ?

Just got mine installed. Here are my initial thoughts on my 12 mile drive to work after having them installed:

1. Tire pressure is way too high, I'm guessing they're around 37 or so, I'll be dropping them before the drive home if I have time

2. Road noise: it's not a howl, but there is an audible "whine" kind of sound between 35-65 mph. Not bad at all, but you can hear them. Louder than the Falkens, and probably 1/4 as much noise as my MTs made. Above 65 they're drowned out by the wind noise/exhaust in my truck.

3. I'm not sure why everyone is so quick to say 35s + MT = bad. I barely noticed a difference in driving vs my 33's.. I might use a little more gas/rev a little higher between gears, but I'm sure by the time I get home tonight it'll be second nature and I'll never think of it again.

4. They look fantastic! I have a 1.5" level and it looks great, but now I'm almost wondering how they'll perform on the easy trails I usually play on. I think it'll be fine, but obviously there's less room in the wheel wells for articulation now.

5. I think I may need an additional balance, might have Discount Tire use their Road Force. There was a bit of vibration but I'll get the tire pressure correct before jumping to conclusions.

Overall, I'm very, very happy with the purchase. That can obviously change pretty quickly, but I intend to try them out off road in the coming weeks and I'll continue putting miles on them. At the very least, I think I'm pretty happy with 35s vs 33s.

** interesting note, my speed is 100% accurate, verified via GPS until 75 mph (fastest I've gone with them so far). I'm guessing at some point maybe the previous owner had it recalibrated? Might return the Tazer Mini I just bought..

Tires were set at 39 PSI, so I dropped them to 34 to start and I'll drop/add air as needed.

I'm also putting a muffler back on at some point in the next week or so, so maybe the road noise will be a bit more noticeable but I still can't imagine it'll be anywhere near unbearable.

How does it feel power wise? What's the elevation where you live? They look really good. Congrats. I decided against installing them due to the power loss plus the additional power loss at my altitude of 7,300. Going by the standard power loss of 3% power 1,000 of elevation in about 21% down. I didn't want to compound the issue with 35" tires. Hence the reason I ordered 33" tires.
