Looking for some advice and experience here.

Reached out to my local dealership about low lease deals on Sport S Gladiators. They gave me a great deal - $3500 down and $240 a month for a 44.5k msrp truck. We agree on pricing via email, they confirm and I give a deposit to get it going. Now, they have the truck and want to make it over $300 a month because of residual change in the time since ordering. They're saying they never guaranteed that lease deal and can't be held to it.

This is my first lease and I don't want to let my emotions of wanting this truck get the better of me. Looking for advice from people that have dealt with dealers more than I have.

Out of curiosity how long from the order until now?
And I have never heard of any dealers holding to lease or financing terms for more than a week, maybe 2. Financing and leasing terms are volatile and can change frequently. For mortgages they will usually lock you in a rate for like 30 days but that process takes so much longer than a car purchase.

It was about 9 weeks from order to dealer. Just talked to a big Jeep dealership in another area and they confirmed that lease deals are hard to pin down, like you said. Unfortunately, it looks like I may be screwed here. Fiat Chrysler is one of the only brands that won't allow leases to be locked in for custom orders.

Now I need to decide how much I want to spend on a leased vehicle. Luckily, it will be a business expense, which helps. But still, very frustrating.

I would say get your deposit back due to the price change and go elsewhere. You put a deposit down to hold the deal, them changing it on you is dishonest.

Just my opinion....

If it makes you feel any better, you are not alone. I believe there are a couple threads here where people had similar issues. I think a big one is that it is a brand new model and everyone is guessing at residuals and using the Wrangler as a guide. I personally think the JT won't hold quite as well as the Wrangler but i hope i am surprised.

It all worked out in the end. They brought the MSRP way down and we found a fair payment option. Thanks for weighing in!

Glad to hear you were able to make a deal. For future reference, it's almost unheard of for any dealer to promise a lease price in advance of delivery. RV and MF changes monthly, and that is what the financial institutions utilize to determine your payments.

I have zero experience leasing but if someone quoted you a price it seems that they should honor that price. OTOH if they said “this is an estimate to be finalized when the truck comes in” that’s a different story...
