You don't want to go there........... it matches the "why" of a couple of other hot topics.
Must have been the tech's first day. I will let the dealer do mine. I figure they will screw up less than I will.
Cudos to you fellas with the method and means to do your own.

P. S. I do do my on oil/fluid changes and annual maintenance on my tractor, zt and small engine equipment. That is within my wheel house

I will let the dealership change my oil while it's free, just like I did with my wife's Renegade. The first time I went to change my wife's oil after the last free dealer oil change, they had torqued the oil drain plug so tight that I had to destroy it to get it out. There is no reason an oil drain plug should be anywhere near that tight. I have never had a problem again since I started changing it.

They shouldn't care. It's in their best interest to get warranty work, they should look past it. Only if Jeep directly gets involved in some big repair would I bother.

The Dealership will do my 4 "free" oil changes then it will be done by me.
1# I like doing my own maintenance.
2# I know what brand, WT. of oil is used. 3# I can check the condition and if there is metal in filter.
My first Jeep the dealership burned me on about everything so I'm verify then trust. First oil change and lube job the lube job wasn't done. I bought my first grease gun that next day and done my own then on.
Two dealerships did renew my trust in them to a degree first the one in Mt. Vernon, IL. and the other is in Weiden Germany "that one loved" my MJ, I should have let them buy it.

I do not uninstall my tazer. I also do not trust my local dealer to do much other than oil and tire rotation and with that I have learned to check the work. So sad that the dealers have such bad reputations on doing the basic maintenance work.
What’s a tazer?

This one by far is the best reason people should want to do (or at least learn to do) their own oil and filter change. The dealership will not check your used oil to see if or what type of particles might be present in it. I'd much rather spend the money on quality oil and filter, and inspect the old oil for particles as peace of mind verses a "free" oil change. And I will also agree with other comments, a dealership might screw it up!

With my JT I've started sending off oil for analysis with Blackstone, in fact I will probably pulling a sample in late January or February for 3rd one. I was quite happy with the results I have had so far and was surprised with the oil condition in my LJ test result. It's a high mileage over 250k :like: all I ever used is synthetic oil in it now sometimes I did go past my change interval I try to stay within of 5k oil changes and less, a few went close to 9k. I was doing 5-6 oil changes plus a year. I can't wait to see how much it's going to cost me to do a transmission fluid change in the JT :( as the owners manual says not needed but that's so they can sell another transmission.

I've thought about that, but never have found anything which really worries me. What do they charge ? If you don't mind me asking. At my job we send out engine and CGB samples every 50 hours run time.

Blackstone Labs standard analysis is $30. TBN/TAN testing if you want to know how much life was still left in your sample for extended oil drain, that is an additional $10 respectively.

You can setup an account with Blackstone Labs and they will send the sample kits with prepaid return postage for free.

It's a way for you to track engine condition of wear and quality of the oil. I'm doing it to monitor for engine problems during the break in and warranty.

who is your dealer? I want to make sure I avoid them if you have already had bad experiences.
I have used my oil changes and also, I check the oil and tires that I marked, etc. I have 1 more left, then I will do it myself.

I am skipping the "free" oil changes. Considering how ridiculously easy it is to change oil in the JT..I feel better doing it myself. I know of at least two folks from work that had dealers put too much oil in their JLs....one even noticed his drain bolt was loose after getting oil change.

I hate having to use dealers for service....I bought my JT from dealer in North Carolina...so at some point I need to pick a local dealer for service. :(

the only thing going on is a oil change and tire rotation. I doubt they'll check anything else.

I don't know what's going on with the other dealers in the country, but at least the smaller ones around here are good. I deliberately checked some stuff over on a prior vehicle - I knew the wiper blades were toast and the air filter was in need - and the washer fluid and other stuff could use topping off. At least at that dealer and that instance, they caught everything.
There are dealers around here I don't care for - like the one where I bought my JT - they are the ones that left the tires set over 40, then when I had them do the first rotation and oil change (and had the cracked windshield replaced) I got it back with the tires upped to 42 again (when the door jamb sticker clearly says 38)
But Dewey - tires are set to the door sticker numbers, and they've gone beyond what I've asked for in the past. And I know they've done the inspections they claim as I've gotten back reports with actual numbers on them, not just check marks.
