Platinum has the additive that keeps the injector and SCR from clogging with deposits. It's normally not an issue as long you're operating at warm engine temperatures. Those of us who do a lot of short commutes and cold weather operation have the deposit issue. The first time topping off I used the box from Walmart... cant remember if it was platinum or not. I was told that wasn't as important as the freshest date possible.
NOW
I get it from the pump @ Buc-ee's...
so far no issues.
Good to know since this is the first I've heard of the problem.Platinum has the additive that keeps the injector and SCR from clogging with deposits. The 3rd gen EcoDiesel is a fairly new engine, so very few have reported this problem. Those of us with the 2nd gen EcoDiesel have had enough miles/time on the engine to experience the injector clogging. Again, it's a non-issue for owner/operators who have ideal driving conditions. I live in a cool climate region with short commutes, so I had the clogged injector issue at around 55,000 miles. It was replaced under warranty but caused a lot of headaches. I switched to Platinum DEF and haven't had any more issues. Others have reported the same level of success.Good to know since this is the first I've heard of the problem.
Thanks for that, I had no idea. Most I talked to said freshness was really important.Platinum has the additive that keeps the injector and SCR from clogging with deposits. I have no experience with any of the DEF additives/treatents on the market. I started using Platinum shortly after it was released at the end of 2020. There was a lot of skeptics when Platinum was released, so various owners would inspect their injectors every so often to see if the product was working as advertised. Over a period of time, everyone reported clean DEF injectors and concluded the product worked as advertised, so I haven't felt the need to explore other products. Thanks for that, I had no idea. But thinking about what you said, I guess it’s similar to the fuel system and I use a treatment for it... so what you said makes sense.
You also mentioned, you prefer the Platinum and not the mix, if I'm getting DEF from the pump, would mixing be the same issue ? Adding it before I add DEF, just like when I fill up the diesel ?
Thanks for the heads up.
I typically have real short trips five or 6 miles each way if I run to town for groceries or to eat since I work from home. It’s been a while since I’ve had some chewies Mexican food so I drove down to Gainesville, which got me on the highway for 45 minutes each way. The thing is with me is it’s one to two 2 1/2 months in between those trips unless I occasionally have the trip up to Georgia to buy snuff which is essentially half price and it is down here in Florida .Platinum has the additive that keeps the injector and SCR from clogging with deposits. It’s not a rare item. You can pick it up all over the place. You’re very likely to get well over 5,000 miles on a full DPF tank. So just like changing your oil before a long trip…do any service that needs to be done.Man, If I had an ecodeisel in any state with no emissions, fuck the warranty, I'd have that shit deleted so quick. Like what do u do if your on a long trip across multiple countries and you run out out of DEF. Does the truck just not run? Seems like a headache to deal with for anyone with expedition vehicle plans.
How long does a tank last? Imagine running out in the Darian straight. It’s not a rare item. You can pick it up all over the place.
