***Yes, I know its an individual choice if you want/need a warranty. ***Yes, I know everyone's experience is different. I am posting this thread for general information and some friendly conversation with fellow Gladiator owners as well as seeking some useful knowledge on the subject.... so...(Before you say "That's why these "what are you paying for XXXX?" threads are kind of pointless and I don't understand why people post these questions") DON'T

I'm getting ready to pick my vehicle up next week.. Every time I've purchased a vehicle , I've received a full court press in the finance office to purchase an extended warranty. On the plus side(if true), my dealership is (Gupton) and I have heard they do not try to up sale you and the buying process is really quick and smooth.

So I have some questions: (If you purchased or will be purchasing an extended warranty)

Do we need one for the Gladiator ? Is the OEM warranty good enough ?
How does an extended warranty differ from the OEM ?
How was your experience at the dealership ? Did they make you sweat and pressure you ?
What type of warranty were you offered ? Did they give you several options ?
What company or companies were carrying the warranty(s) they offered ?
How much did you pay ?
What were the terms ?
What's the best way/technique to use to get the best price ?
Should you purchase it out of pocket or build it into the financing ?
Would buying directly from FCA(Jeep) be the best choice ?

What about:
If you passed on the extended warranty at the dealership and you wait close to the time the original warranty expires and then purchase one. I know on the last couple vehicles, I got bombarded with phone calls wanting to sell me an extended warranty . When I checked with the actual car manufacture, I was able to purchase one relatively cheap (cheaper than what was originally offered when I made the purchase) and cheaper than what was offered on the many phone calls.

These are just some quick thoughts/questions, hopefully you guys/gals can fill in the blanks !

Would you like to know my first-born’s SSN, too?
The primary reason I got an extended warranty was I hit 35,000 miles after 15 months. I bought the warranty after about a year of ownership, and paid cash. As mentioned, call Tom for your best deal.

As mentioned above, call Tom for pricing before you buy one from the dealer.

Pick whatever plan (Maximum Care covers the most and is the best value) and terms that meet your driving habits. He's going to save you a lot of money.

Tom was the cheapest I found by far for a factory warranty.

Tom sounds like a popular guy, but what if you purchased from another dealer? I have always wondered about an extended warranty, not if its worth it (individual choice) but rather who and when to purchase one. I have a JTSD and thinking an extended warranty may be worth it at some point.

Is there “fine print” in Mopar’s extended warranty that stipulates ‘parts that wear (or wearable parts) are not covered’? Like brake pads, rotors, clutch plates etc ??

When it comes to extended warranties, maybe all warranty providers speak the same language. I don’t know but I got extended warranty burned with my last truck being the 2017 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport. Had bought the 7 year, 200,000 kms, Platinum ECP. I was sold with the speech from finance and this was going to be my last financed vehicle. Was going to keep it. Paid $3200 cad for the coverage.

One of the lines in the fine print of what is and is not covered said “warranty does not cover wearable parts”.

I had the truck for 3 years and in that time I had several service approved warranty repairs. (These costs add up to corporate, keep this thought)

At 110k kms had developed grinding in the syncro gear manual transmission and here is where I started getting push back from service. They wanted me to cover the cost of their techs to rip apart the tranny to see what’s grinding. I refused and said I have warranty and a problem with the transmission. I went to another Toyota dealership and the service manager said the grinding is the syncro gear but sorry to say “it’s a wearable part and not covered”. (Exactly what the fine print said)

I called Toyota corporate and asked the rep “isn’t every part on this truck a “wearable part”? They said yes.

It’s their way of backing out when costs to repair exceed what you paid. Stay with me here, I’ll prove it!

I didn’t go ahead with the transmission repair as I had to drive to BC right away and during the trip, an elk ran out in front of me and totalled my truck. At this point now having to cancel the extended warranty with the finance department, I was owed $1000 back in extended warranty TIME AND KMS I didn’t use. ECP (extended care plan) owed me 4 years and 65k kms in $$$. Was told to wait 6-8 weeks for a cheque. I waited 10 and called finance. She enquired to ECP and the response back was my claim was refused because “approved warranty repairs cost more than I paid so they are keeping the $1000 I had claimed”. I called corporate for an explanation and was hung up on.

The finance manager at the dealership said ECP was wrong and he was going to fight for me. The dealership got no where with ECP but made good on the $1000 and covered it themselves.

I was sold TIME and KMS. Not repair cost value. Toyota screwed themselves in keeping that $1000 and I went to Jeep. I will never buy an extended warranty.

I repurchased an extended warranty from my dealer when I bought my MY2021, it’s underwritten by CNA National. They canceled the contract for my MY2020 Gladiator and I was refunded 80% (guess this amount is based on time & milage). First foray into Jeep for me (although 2nd Gladiator) and I’m still unsure about reliability longevity I guess.

I’m in another state and couldn’t even tell you where Hayes Jeep is so it doesn’t matter where you bought it. Only issue you might have is if you live in CA but we made that work as well

"Plan service will be provided by the dealer who sold you the plan.
In the event that you cannot return to the selling dealer for service, you may request plan service from any FCA dealer within the United States, Canada, Guam, Puerto Rico or Mexico. If you are unable to obtain plan service from an authorized dealer, call our toll-free number to receive service instructions."

After looking on Chrysler Warranty . com (Chrysler warranty is now MOPAR) I was quoted the following for the MAXCARE : (The quote is fo a 2022 JTRD)
Covered Months96
Covered Miles85,000
Deductible$200
Plan Price$1,509.00
Selected UpgradeNone
Upgrade Price$0.00
Sales Tax$0.00
Discount$180.00
Total Plan Price$1,329.00
Based on those that have purchased an extended warranty, how does this stack up ? I was going to take this quote to Gupton , I believe I read that they are matching Tom W. prices. *Reminder, this quote is from Chrysler for the MOPAR MAXCARE , it seems to have every box checked for coverage.

No problem.

I found Tom to be cheaper than the online quotes. I don't remember the exact price difference but it was by $hundreds.

As to your other questions, you have time to buy the factory warranty. You do not have to commit to the selling dealer right then and there. (Although, they will probably tell you you have to.) I bought my 1st warranty from Tom about 6 months after I got my first Glad. The second warranty I bought from Tom the next day after I bought Glad #2.

As far as pricing, I think his prices are set according to what package you want. I don't think he gives different people different pricing (contrary to what most dealers do).

Lastly, its hard to recommend a warranty to a person. Its kind of like insurance coverage. Some people will buy the bare minimum insurance required by law. Others will insure to the max. Its all risk vs reward.
