Dreaded Service Auto Start/Start message...

I'm stunned that you have the original batteries and want to "try" something different. You definitely got your moneys worth from the originals.

Tape up the aux negative and pull f42 like Mr. Bill suggested. Might be a good time to replace the main or have it load tested.

Read up on IBS, fuse array, charging AGM bateries and the precautions of replacing the batteries. Not doing this could make you very familiar with all of the above.

I ran into the start stop service message today so I’ve been digging into the forum for some troubleshooting this is what I did.

I tested my battery was reading 12.6v when it was off. Normal range from what I understand.

So then I did the whole remove the negative for the aux and the fuse and try that. Car wouldn’t start, the dash flickered like it was a dead battery. From everything I’ve seen I disconnected the correct negative wire.

Then I reassembled everything and it started right up.

My question is what’s the next troubleshooting step?

Is it the Aux battery? Did I disconnect the wrong negative?

If you disconnected the main ground instead of the aux negative, I would no lights. In your case, I think that your main is weak and the aux battery was just enough to be able to start.

You are so close to isolating your issue by leaving it separated and charge both batteries. Then measure the voltage at each battery. You will see which battery is the problem.

I do recall that some years ago, the Aux negative was flipped on the main. So, try disconnecting the other negative on the main.
