I bought one of the NAPA dual pump compressors which is the same as MAXI, THOR, MORRFLATE, etc... and I wanted it in the bed rather than under a seat. So after thinking a while I decided to see if I could flip it 90º and after a little cutting into the mounts it worked perfectly. So it was just a matter of welding on the back nut because you lose access and then mounting into the side of the bed. (slightly crooked, whoops...) Will use loctite since the nylock is melted.
I kept all the original bushings in the same places. I also gutted the internals to prep for the mods and flipped the heads so the button and quick connect is facing outward. I'll put a 90º for the type d coupler so that I don't have to make space when I want to use it.
Next on the list is the compressor mods for pressure switch, type d, PCB board elimination, 4-tire system, and running some 6awg from the battery to the back. All the supplies arrive on Tues/Wed this coming week. I'd ultimately like a busbar on the inner panel and then use that plate where the 120v would be to add some 12v ports.
Edit: As chorky mentioned a post below you should sheathe the cable. This is not a DIY on the electrical side. There are plenty of those floating around. This is simply to show a way to mount the compressor in the bed.
