I am. I totally understand why people don't run the sanctioned runs. If I were trying to avoid those I'd go at a totally different time than EJS (and do myself pretty regularly).

Basically the events/runs by the RR4W club are held in close cooperation with the BLM. As a volunteer, we are charged with teaching responsible land use through guiding trails. Those requirements are 75+% satisfied by the "drivers meeting" before every trail. After that it falls to the leaders and gunners to help keep people on the trail and deal with any incidents in a responsible manner. I feel like I'm "giving back" a little to the community by volunteering time with the club.

Just throwing this out there if anyone is interested in Elephant Hill on Tuesday of EJS. I'd want to leave Moab about 7:30 (plan on that being military time (at least what I learned military time was from where I grew up with a bunch of veterans---we'll leave promptly at 7:30am) per ATT wireless cell phone clock :D) to get ahead of the bigger RR4W group. I haven't worked that trail in at least 7-8 years. It's a cool and worthy trail. I know the Tuesday trail leader well and I'm sure we could figure out a way to not impact the RR4W group. We could only have a group of three vehicles and we'd obviously want to stagger ourselves away from the RR4W group

I just looked up the leaders/gunners page. I don't know your Moab Rim leaders/gunners and I think I know one of the gunners on Metal Masher. I'm sure you'll have a great time.
