State vehicle franchise laws in most states would say otherwise. The only reason EV companies like Tesla get away with it in most places is that they never stood up traditional franchise dealerships and were a direct to consumer model out the gate.I think Jeep going to eliminate dealers and go direct from manufacturers orders.
I hate the dealership franchise model with a passion but short of legacy manufacturers just basically going belly up on paper to break their franchise agreements and start fresh under another name and legal entity, I do not see the state dealership franchise model going anywhere.
Ford recently tried to pivot somewhat to a direct to consumer model when they made their own EV division a separate entity, but they are still hamstrung somewhat with their current legacy franchise dealerships not wanting to play ball.
