I am just past year two and about 11 months to go. Is purchasing the extended warranty worth it? I have heard both sides. and I have the 3.0 so that is warranted for 100k miles I believe. I just do not have the $$$ to spend on it right now.

With the 3.0, you have 100k powertrain like you said. From my conversations with one of the forum’s highly recommended MOPAR warranty sales guys, the most you can stretch is 8 years and 125,000 miles. I believe the cost was about $3,000.

I don’t think I’ll be keeping the truck that long to be honest. The kicker for me was the plan runs in parallel to your factory warranty, so you’d be paying $3,000 for 3yrs/25,000 miles. It is also an inclusionary warranty, meaning they tell you what is covered and not what explicitly is not - you want exclusionary latter when buying a warranty imo.

You're probably better off financially putting the $3,000 in savings and dealing with issues as they arise. One day it might be your water pump, but the next it may be the water heater in your house. Money in savings covers all of your issues as they arise vs a warranty only covers you vehicle… maybe.

An extended warranty is a profit center for any manufacturer. On average, they take in more revenue than they spend on coverage. So if everyone considering one pooled their money into a savings account and paid out for failures, there would be money to distribute at the end. BUT, just like insurance pooling risks, this means some people are going to come out ahead and some behind. So really it's a question of peace of mind and luck.

You've got to ask yourself one question: "Do I feel lucky?"
Well do ya punk?

Jokes aside, one of the reasons mnfrs make money off warranties is they pay their dealers less book time and lower negotiated shop rates per hour than an individual has access to.

For any gas owner able to buy one slightly above cost (shoutout to Hayes Jeep and Granger Jeep) who plans to keep their truck for the length of the warranty, I think it's worth it. For a diesel a bit less so, but note 5yr/100k miles is 20k miles per year. Most people are only getting 75k miles coverage out of that. 8/125 is about spot on what the average person drives, so if you're doing 15k/yr you're not only gaining 3yr/25, you're getting more like 3yr/50k

Statistically speaking, no one knowingly offers a warranty they'll lose money on. They price it to make money. From that perspective it is not worth it. But statistics doesn't account for the peace of mind from knowing that costly repairs will be covered (hopefully). My biggest problem with warranties, and insurance in general, is they'll try to find reasons not to pay out. Whenever I take anything in for warranty repairs I wonder if it will be covered or somehow blamed on me. I do not feel like I fully own my vehicle and can do whatever I want with it until the warranty has expired.

Your last sentence is spot on. I have owned a lot of new vehicles and I always find myself worried about how how my mods might let the OEM deny a warranty claim, regardless how irrelevant.

They will finance the Mopar Extended Warranty and spread it out over 18 months. Instead of trading my truck for a new one, I upgraded the 75k warranty the dealer sold with it. I canceled it and got my money back, and purchased the Max Care Unlimited mileage plan. I bought it through one of the discounted dealers (Tom Winkle?) discussed here on the forum.

I knowingly drive way more than the average person so an extended warranty makes sense for me and just paid for itself in the last few months.

I have a 2020 sport with 118k miles on it. In the last three months I've had the max care extended cover new cam shafts, new rockers, a new EGR Valve, new oil pump and a new variable timing solenoid. all for the wallet friendly cost of $200. I have the 7 year unlimited plan as I knew I would put 200K miles on this thing before the 7 years was up.

If you drive like I do and don't do anything to break the warranty its worth it. I paid $2300 for it back in 2020. Warranty prices are adjustable just call around and find the right dealer willing to give you a discount.
