Here's what it looks like with the door fully extended against the strap extension:

And here's what it looks like with the plastic panel removed so you can see what is behind it:

Maybe they shortened the harnesses. Have you pulled the plastic panel off to see if maybe your harness is as long as mine but maybe it's kinked behind the panel?

Sounds like @Lunentucker says his '21's harnesses are like my '20's. Maybe it changed in '22 or '23. Now inquiring minds want to know!!!
Damn they gave you so much!!!! I know mine off the top of my head cus i take the doors off reg. Always pisses me off how tight to the truck i got set the door to get it back on cus of the strap.

Sorry brother...

So then going back to the OP @BuckarooAZ , it looks like you may not be able to do the extension strap since you have a '23 like PuddleJumper does. Make sure you go out and take a look at it to be sure though. Maybe they changed the length of the harnesses or maybe Puddle got "the short straw" or maybe the harness is just tied up behind the plastic panels.

For both the OP and PuddleJumper it might be worth it to pop off some panels and make sure that there isn't some harnes tucked away somewhere.

For anyone else, with say a 2022 Gladiator, what is the length of your door wiring harness?

It could just be a matter of assembly and where they anchored the cabling in the doors. Makes it more involved, but it might be worth taking a look to see if the slack is still in there somewhere.
Leave it to Jeep to cut costs by reducing inches of wires. 😂

Well, I took a combination of suggestions for a fix to get me going. It may be short term or long term depending on wear and tear. I wrapped the hook in a couple of turns of Gorilla Tape to smooth the edges, burned a hole in the wire harness with a hot soldering iron, and threaded three loops of 550 paracord thru the hole and looped it over the hook. Doesn’t look to bad and adjusted to the right degree of opening to easily slide the cooler in And not hit the front door. Also unbolted the detent. It’s spring loaded tight in the door and the bolt back in its place. Ps. I had lots of wire, at least 4” of slack.
