I just got the final estimate to fix the issues with my wiring harness...which was fried leading to the flat-4/7-pin. They have to replace the ENTIRE wiring harness in my truck as well as the flat-4/7-pin connector itself.

$4,417 and change ???

They're not sure when the harness will be in and are looking at other dealerships to see if they have one to try and get one sooner. I guess my trip to VA the first week of October is out :(

I will be painting the top portion of the plug on the trailer to ensure that there's absolutely ZERO chance of putting it in upside down (even though I am 99 44/100% sure I didn't but still...).

Let this be a VERY expensive lesson to us all to ensure that we put the plugs for our trailers in correctly.

I'm outta warranty by time, not mileage (only 27,6xx miles on a '20 Overland ordered 5/19, delivered 7/19). So, this is outta pocket.

My dealership suggested, because there was a fire involved, to see if my auto insurance would cover it...so far, there is a case open so, FINGERS CROSSED, they'll cover it and it'll just be my $500 deductible ? ? ?

The fire and frying of the wiring harness from roughly 2 1/2 feet back from the plugs for the trailer meant that they couldn't just replace that piece but, they have to do the entire harness. Plus, it happened from the 7-pin and not the flat-4. Most of that cost is labor because they actually have to lift the body off the frame to get to everything.

I think the dealership is trying to sell it as a critter chewing the wiring causing the issues. I was told that they actually dip the wiring harness in a corn based product for water protection vs. a petroleum based product for environmental concerns. That alone makes it more tasty and attractive for the fuzzy woodland critters...

I hate insurance but it can be great when needed. I tow a lot , various generators at work (we have over forty 1500 to 12,000 pound units) a lot have 7 pin, my three trailers that I tow at home all use seven pin connectors , there’s no way a guy named Steve from Pa. could put the plug in wrong, it’s hard enough to put in correctly. Did you get the trailer fixed and try it with a very good friends truck? Insurance should cover it…..Jack

Another update...

Still waiting for the new wiring harness which will be on hold until the strike is over  :angry:

But, in other news, my insurance (InsurAAAnce ? ) company sent me a check for the repairs...it's for everything except my $500 deductible.

Total repairs to replace the entire wiring harness are around $4,400 ??? That's GREAT news that my InsurAAAnce company came through :):):)
