I remember when I was about 5yo, my grandfather gave me this great piece of advice that I didn't understand then, but it really hit me about 10 years ago. He told me "Never waste your time talking to an asshole........All you will ever get is a fart in the face".That was me years ago. I've honed my responses accordingly to not be the biggest jackass on the forum. lol.
There's only one topic that gets my a-holeness turnt up to 11. It got me banned from the VW forum when I took a troll out to the woodshed. While I admit I don't know everything, I cannot stand people who think they do. The Dunning-Kruger Effect is real.
As any forum grows, the early useful tech that built it eventually gets replaced by the "junk to fill it up". I find myself just reducing my participation since I can't change the trend.
EDIT: Looking up your suggested Dunning-Kruger theory, I can totally understand it! I was just telling my wife the other day............I think the reason I can't find qualified help at my shop is that the dumb/unqualified "hacks" apply thinking they are overqualified while the "techs" who are possibly not the experts I desire, but have the knowledge/skill set that could be easily polished in a short time don't apply because they don't think are good enough to get the job?
