First time Jeep owner. Recently upgraded to a 2020 Gladiator Overland from an ‘06 Honda Pilot and I’m loving this! I know nothiing about Jeeps and have no desire to mod it (outside of tube doors in the summer) or take it off-roading. Just wanted a truck that looked cool 🤷🏻‍♂️.

The vehicle has 35s on it and sits super high, so I assume it has a lift kit installed(?) Also, based on what I’m seeing about regearing with 35s and what gears people frequently run in when driving, I assume it wasn’t regeared(?). I hit 8th every now and then but it will drop to 6th on inclines. I would say most of the time it’s running in 7th when at a steady 50mph+. I’ve read a ton of forum posts about if you ‘should’ regear with 35s on 3.73, but I don’t see it ever mentioned if it’s harmful or potentially damaging to the vehicle if you don’t. This is my daily driver and I plan to ride it until the wheels fall off. Trying to learn if regearing will extend the life any, and if so, would it be worth the $3000-4000 I was quoted from a local shop.

You should find a different shop for a quote. Mine was 2,000$ with labor for 4.88. Also, not regearing won’t necessarily hurt anything but it’s gonna put more strain on the motor and you’ll get worse fuel mileage. I think it would deff be worth it to re gear to 4:10. If you’re keeping it until the wheels fall off you’ll make that money back in fuel savings.

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, they quoted me $1500-2000 PER axle. Right now my mpg is about 14.5-15. It tanks with remote start in the cold weather each time it gets up to 15. They also recommended 4.56 I think.

My '20 Gladiator Sport S is on 37s with 3.73s, no issues. MPG is typically 18-19 in the summer and 15-16 in the winter in Minnesota (remote starts and winter gas lowers it). I take a trip down to Missouri a couple of times a year and regularly get 20-21 on that trip, all highway driving between 60 and 70 mph. I see 8th but if there is much of an incline or wind it will kick down to 7th or 6th. Personally I don't see the need to regear but everyone's opinions and experiences on the matter are different.

Sounds like we are similar on numbers. Hopefully I hit 18-19mpg in the summer 🤞🏻

I'm running 37s as well, but am on a 2" Mopar lift. Mines strictly a daily driver as well on the stock 3.73 gears. I have no issues with this setup. Took a trip from Nebraska to San Diego and back last May and it drove great. Averaged 17mpg.

I'm running 35's with 3.73 I don't see 8th very often but I wouldn't spend the money to regear unless I was going to 37s or larger. It's not going to hurt your truck , and if you're worried about mpg you bought the wrong truck to begin with  . If you're struggling on the hills , going back to 33s would be cheaper than a regear. Jeeps aren't the most reliable vehicles on the planet to begin with, but a lot of the problems we suffer through were created by our own modifications. If you're not looking to mod it or take it off road then the closer it is to stock the more reliable and cheaper it will be to maintain. I'm CERTAIN you could find someone to swap you their rims and tires for yours hahah. Sweet looking truck though.

Famous last words. We came from a second gen Pilot, and although we miss the expanse of the interior space, this is definitely a better vehicle for off-roading and towing our boat. We started out with a stock Max tow and over the time added a winch and Rubicon takeoff tires and many other accessories. We also hope to also drive this until the wheels fall off.

Haha, I’ve accepted my ‘15mpg if I’m lucky’ fate. I love this thing!

Only mod I’m looking to do is to put some passive entry door handles on the driver and passenger side. Going to take on that project in the near future!

Congrats @jwh356 on the new Gladiator. You got one of the best colors: Gator. Depending on the shadows/light, it may be Gobi but it looks like Gator. I had a 2020 Gator and loved it.

We've owned Acuras most of ours lives and I have a 23 Honda Passport as a daily driver mix with my Gladiator. Remember that your Jeep may not parallel the reliability of your Honda, but also remember that nobody will place a duck or give you a thumbs up when you're driving your Pilot. There's nothing like owning a Jeep
