With all due respect to Gladiator diesel owners, it wouldn’t be the right engine for everyone - certainly not for me. It’s at least an extra $4,150 up front. It’s 500lbs heavier. It rules out 4H Auto/selectrac. There is no advantage in speed or towing, right?. Diesel now costs around $1.25 more, roughly 30%. You‘d really have to value that extra torque to make it attractive. The automotive press has left me with the impression that it hasn’t sold well, has had more problems (and the open recall), and is likely to be discontinued as soon as next year.
Full disclosure, the only diesel I have owned was a stinky old VW Rabbit which rebelled against cold winters, as I think they all do. So I’ve suffered without experiencing the advantages.
I drove and loved the Mojave in stock form. But if you have a Mojave and a Rubicon, and add any lift with the almost-inevitable new shocks, it just seems to me that the resulting Rubicon is the better package with the sway bar disco and the front lockers. Even adding a winch to the Mojave sounds like it opens Pandora’s box since it’s already heavier in the front and lacks a steel bumper.
Please correct me where I’m wrong here, but those are some of the things that I thought about before selecting a trim.
An aside for OP, pretty much everyone here will advise you to get the LED lighting package and the AUX switches if at all possible.
