So, there is another thread very similar to yours that you might want to visit: https://www.jeepgladiatorforum.com/forum/threads/torn-on-ordering-options-help.56722/#post-929347

Since you’re ordering I’d get what you want so you’re happy, but I’d really think about what makes you happy first.

If you’re seeking input, I’d share what I posted there:

Since you asked, I’ll answer along the lines of how I ordered and why.
- Mojave - the ride fits my style best.
- Gobi, limited run that I like and is seemingly very popular and sought after.
- black 3pc HT, security for downtown parking and I believe I’ll get most over penny back in resale.
- auto, tow, Aux switch, & remote start; convenience and resale.
- Black fenders, 1. I like the look, 2. I’ve seen painted fenders with a pinstripe scratch and I can’t unsee that horror, 3. Lastly, a lot of people like to invest in aftermarket fenders, so since I don’t personally love the painted fenders myself, I assume the guy in the resale market who will be in line someday to buy my rig will only pay up to a price without painted fenders.

Back to your order…. I did not want the LED’s myself. The stock lights work absolutely fine for me and I’m more than happy to wait as prices on tech usually fall in time. Also, noting your ”frugal” disposition, you may want to consider limiting your upgrades on a sport S. The reason is simple, in the resale market, a dealer will typically only give you so much money for a Willys, Sport S, Rubicon, Mojave, etc based on wholesale auction market averages for THAT TRIM LEVEL!!! So, consider the analogy of adding a swimming pool, redecorated bathroom suite, theater room, etc to a house. A home owner is more likely to get their money back on those invested dollars if it is more of a premium house than say a started house. Of coarse, this is the average scenario and there are always exceptions, but statistical norms are meaningful to businesses.

So, if you want to maximize your investment recapture, I’d skip Gorilla glass, tonneau, select-trac spray in bed liner from the factory and many other options if you have any concern on resale. Sure, maybe those are nice to haves, but maybe the next person doesn’t care enough to want to pay for it.

Just my $.02’s from my experience and how I think.

Oh, and you may want to really considering moving before the more likely than not price increases and shortages. Google neon gas (Russian export), rubber, plastic, shortages, price increases, etc. In fact, I recently read that GM is going to idle their Silverado production for 2 weeks starting today, and it AIN‘T BECAUSE they don’t like profits!

Maybe I'm just a complete noob as I've never ordered a vehicle...

But why in the world if I'm "building" my "own" Gladiator straight from the factory - with the options I want to pay for..... Why do they FORCE packages on a build like that?

Shouldn't Jeep be happy that I'm building a Gladiator from their website to pursue to purchase??
People don't understand or "get" the fact that when there are so many possible combinations, it costs them money. It's not as simple as a salad bar.
They have to streamline things somewhere. They have to go with what's most popular, the best bang for their buck and the customer's buck. There are reasons things come in certain combinations. Some is science, some is manufacturing, some engineering and some is psychology. They also have to plan for and order parts months into the future, if not more. They must project what's going to sell and order accordingly - I'd bet they have parts already contracted for for the trucks to be made in December. And if there's a supply issue, they have to compensate for that.
It's been this way for since before I started driving 50 years ago and it ain't gonna change. How about this - want a full size spare on a Grand Cherokee? That comes with the tow package. Interesting - but that's how it works.

Thanks for that insight.

I don't know. After going over a few things, I think I'm just going to wait for now.

My WK only has 137k and outside of a few rust spots - is perfectly fine for my needs.

I think I"m turning this Gladiator situation into an emotional "want"verses a needed. Will probably hold tight for now and evaluate in the next year or two.

Agree as stated above. Although I did get the factory bedliner and Gorilla glass, Bedliner can be done aftermarket at a comparable price and I didn't have the info on Gorilla glass that is out there now. Also with packages Jeep does weird things. My Sport S build would not allow black wheels only silver with the cold weather package and only painted fenders with Max Tow.

  • The MOPAR tonneau covers are insanely expensive. The Tyger soft tri-fold has gotten great reviews and I had one on my previous Ram and was pleased with it. https://www.amazon.com/Tyger-Auto-T...ed+tonneau+cover+gladiato,aps,171&sr=8-5&th=1
  • I believe the Popular Equipment Package $1,395 includes the basic Trailer-Tow package so no need to add the $695 in with your packages calculation.
  • Definitely opt for the LED lighting it is worth it.
  • Max Tow is great and has wider axles from the Rubicon (no lockers) with better springs and adds extra wheel space, 4.10 gears, and huge brakes plus upgraded cooling.

I hate trifold myself. Always in the way, can't just flip up the end, can't roll it all the way forward if you are out and about and need it out of the way, etc. I can roll mine up, strap it, and in 2 minutes have it clear off the truck if I am at some place where I need it out of the way, and stow it along the inside of the bed. My neighbor tried a trifold and finally pulled it off and tried to give it away - finally he scrapped it because no one wanted it even for free.
I know some love it, but I never could get past the "it's always there in the way" bit and you are stuck having part of the bed covered.

I know, I know, let the flames and hate mail begin - how dare I........... but I'm more practical, I guess...... and I use my truck as a truck a lot, and in this case, I was down in Kansas and what would I have done with a rigid cover?
(and this pic was taken after some rolls were already taken off and out of the truck)

And then there's the truck tent thing - I can install the tent with the cover rolled up tight or pull two screws and take it off in seconds.

Hmmmm, no, standard tow has the same cooling and huge alternator. I'd not call the max tow springs better, just progressive to handle more payload. Mine rode better without the max tow springs but I wanted to haul stuff. Brakes are the same - look up the parts. I found the same brake parts listed for each model.
Not sure what you mean adds extra wheel space - the axles are .75" wider (each side) but the wheels aren't changed. It's just the same width axles as Rubicon.
Cooling and alternator are the same as my Overland has, brakes are the same (not huge).
The salesman even went over this stuff before I bought, but I confirmed things over the last couple of years.

Same - with tow package or max tow

Same - this is the same alternator max tow gets, comes with standard tow package -

And unless there are HD HD brakes - my Overland with tow package has HD brakes.

If you can swing it do it. My guess if you wait it out you will eventually be buying one at a higher price. I don't see inventories get higher any time soon. I think the dealerships and manufacturers see a huge benefit in not having a large sitting inventory. From what I see things are not going to get normal any time soon. I farm and trying to buy anything right now is tough. Timpte trailers for instance stopped taking orders on new trailers and are sold out in November and they can not price out right now because suppliers are not will to contract out on a year contract anymore. Even getting simple things like tires is not a simple deal anymore.

VW has said "worse before it gets better". It's no longer "just covid", now.

Yeah I understand that I could be paying more down the line.

I don't know. I've always been a pretty safer person in regards to finances.

We just bought a JGC L for my wife last November.

I'm sure tomorrow I'll be in the buying mood again, but sometimes it's good to think it over and make sure a second car payment is something I really want - when nothing is really wrong with my current WK..

Thanks for the good insights and convo!

Resisting temptation, my wife's smart savings plans, and skipping a few things now and then are why I can do more now than I could 20 years ago. Not wealthy or rich, but not worried about paying the taxes next fall. My parents bought their FIRST new vehicle in 2010 (yeah, just 8 years before Dad was killed and 5 years before Mom died of cancer) THEY should have spent a bit more, IMO. They lived too frugally and Dad died with a shocking amount invested for him being a factory worker who was laid off when the plant moved when he was only 55 or so. There are extremes both ways. Find what is right for you. But whatever you do - PLAN for your future. I worked with people who could never retired because they had nothing saved, nothing paid for, no retirement planned and burned all of their vacation and sick leave - many times at the casino.

Plan and don't let "want" vs. "need" get too much in the way, but don't forget to treat yourself now and then when you can, either!
You've got your head on straight (as Mom would say) - you'll figure it out.

Thanks.

We have a savings rate of 27% towards our pretax and post tax retirement accounts.

We're not rich either, but live happily and healthy. One day hopefully I'll be driving one of these bad boys (JT) when it makes more sense.....

Well Walter got back to me the other day and said that the forced LED package add on was a glitch in the system and I should send over another build if I'm interested.

Well I'm still interested!

Sent him this build!:

Jeep Gladiator Sport S
Firecracker Red
8 Speed auto transmission 850RE
Popular Equipment Package
Cold Weather Group
Black wheels / AT Tires

Came out to M.S.R.P.: $47,200
Forum Pricing (5% below Factory Wholesale Price [Invoice]): $43,305
If you qualify for Affiliate Rewards, there is an additional 1% discount or $42,875
Qualify for Affiliate Rewards AND Finance through Gupton Motors, you get a 1% additional discount: $42,444.

I'm sure some will say no max tow - but I don't really tow anything too serious. I think the standard tow capacity of 6000lbs will suit just fine for us.

I am also planning on aftermarket Tonneau cover, bedliner, and side steps.

Now I'm just waiting to hear back to put down my deposit!

I also want to sign up for tread lightly asap and get that taken care of for that extra 1% off!

I'm geeking out as a 33 year old. Always wanted a Wrangler.... but now I get the best of both worlds!

LOL - sounds like me. I've had plenty of other Jeeps but it was getting to me the number of Wranglers and other Jeeps my younger brother has had over the years and finally I wanted one - but with 3 cars at the time, a truck, and my wife's Grand Cherokee it was hard to justify yet another vehicle like a Wrangler - when I saw one of these in a showroom, I had my solution. A truck AND a Jeep in the same garage stall.

I sold my 70 Javelin (man, I miss that car!) and my Chevy truck and bought my Gladiator

Good luck. Most of us couldn't get the cold weather package with the black rims. That may not be the case anymore though..
