I have a Bestop Sunrider and my driver side tension cable broke.

I see they sell a parts kit online, but has anyone done this? Is it actually doable or a huge PITA - cause it sure looks like one :lipssealed:. It's working fine besides some extra wind nose.

This will help decide if it's worth $150.

Thanks

How old is the Sunrider?

Have you tried reaching out to @Bestop
I have found them to be fantastic to deal with.

It's two years old. Hardware is only warranted for one year.

I had tried contacting them originally asking for advice on what to check as I had noticed a ton of extra wind noise (before I found the broke cable). They asked for a ton of photos and information. I've sent that to them two weeks ago and followed up when I found the broken cable with no response.

My guess is because of the age out of warranty and the fact it was a gift (so I don't have an invoice with my name on it) means no support.

We have a multi day road trip planned end of May so I'll likely end up buying the repair kit and reporting how it goes.

@Undecided do you have any idea on how the cable broke?

I don't suppose you drove with it open at a high speed for an extended period of time.
I had one that started to make a terrible noise after a long road trip with extended highway driving with it open.

Not a clue. Passenger side is fine.
Just noticed one day I had a lot of wind noise. Checked all the torque. Next day happened to open it in the garage and noticed the cable broken from its connection point.

@Main Line Willys, thanks for the tag!

@Undecided if you want to email me with your info and case #, [email protected], I'll get with Customer Service and see what's going on. If I had to guess, they did receive your email but haven't had a chance to get it, they're a small but mighty team and it is busy season, I apologize for that but let me know what I can do to help!

Hi Crystal,

The team did actually get back to me and graciously shipped the kit. :) thank you for checking in.

I will update the thread when i get it fixed since there's no report I've seen yet for how tricky it is.

Quick search and it looks like there are some YouTube videos on replacing the cable. Worth watching.

Was able to finally get the cable replaced in the Sunrider. Instructions provided are easy to follow and the process was simple, though lots of screws. The biggest challenge was getting the side rail back onto the sunrider frame, which is the same effort/trick required for initial build.

Thank you @Bestop
