Getting mine setup for its first tow behind the MH. I towed my JK many times.
I installed a Curt wiring kit and HK offroad towing shackles kit to my Rubicon steel bumper.
I'm going to order a CoolTech https://www.cooltechllc.com/towing-...-jl-wrangler-and-gladiator-led-light-fix.html That solves any issues with the BCM as I have LED tail lights.

The Curt tow harness has a flat 4 plug and the MH has a 7 blade typical.
I can get a Flex-Coil 7-4 adapter easy enough but I also want a Hot and Neg from the MH so I can hook up a RVI battery toad charger.

Anyone see a Flex-Coil 7-4 adapter that has a hot and neg plug also?

Or what have others done for the same result.

Thanks

I wired my own harness for the JT.
I've got a wireless taillight transmitter tucked away behind the front bumper, and +12V & ground also.
I used a coiled cord with 7 conductors, putting a 7-pin connector on the RV end, and a 6-pin round connector on the Jeep end, thereby keeping the connector on the JT to a minimum.

I'm curious about something...

How difficult would it to be to make up a system where in the tail light assembly, you have another bulb that is brake light, running light, and turn signal all in one like one might have on a utility trailer.

Then all one might need to do is wire a flat 4 system to that. Your towing vehicle supplies the power for these lighting functions like one would have on a utility trailer. If your tow vehicle has the capacity to tow that much, then auxiliary braking might not be needed.

Then, one simply hooks up the 'toad' as normal and simply plugs in the flat 4, puts the t-case in neutral and off you go.

Discuss/argue amongst yourselves 🤔 🤔 🤔 :CWL::CWL::CWL::CWL::CWL:

This is actually an option: you can buy kits for this.
You just need to have room in the taillight housing for an additional bulb/socket.

It does however leave your license plate light & marker lights out...

I used a Curt 58964, everything plug and play and cheap $70.

Think I'll just do a 7 blade to 6 round plug setup and wire in a 6 plug receptacle..then tie it all in.

Thanks all.

I’ve got my 22 Overlander set up to tow behind my motorhome already. I haven’t towed it yet after doing AEV 2.5 lift and installing 35” tires and new wheels however. Does anyone know if you can put an aftermarket bumper that would leave the installed hitch plate and hookups in place?

Is the switch needed ? I have never put one on any of my jeeps and never had an issue with battery drain. I have had to add the diodes so it doesn’t feed back to the MH. I never had a switch and never needed power to the jeep when towing.

Well in some cases it is as the tail lights will send a wake up signal to the BCM, but I just tested mine key off waited 5 min and when the brake pedal is pushed the tail lights do not come on so when my RVI pushes the brakes hooked up all will work as it should.
Guess the Curt harness has diodes or something in it to kill the signal to the BCM when its sending the power not the Jeep..

Well I was wrong...so I'm adding a battery charger wired to the 6 pin to 7 blade I put in. That will keep the battery charged up.

But I want to remove the return wire from the LED tail lights so it doesn't wake up the Jeep.
Doing it at the tail lights isn't a option for my situation so I want to do it at the BCM.
Any idea if this is possible?
Yes I know I could do the Cooltech and that may happen but no time to do that this trip and if this works no reason except a tail light bulb out indicator on the dash.

Also location of the BCM seems to be in the dash accessed by removing the glove box.

Can anyone confirm the location and wire to be removed if possible.

Thanks

I’m in the process of setting mine up to tow. Blue Ox baseplate and tow bar with an RVi brake system. As the 12v plug on the dash appears to be switched, are you having to tow in the ACC position? (I’m guessing that’s why there is so much battery charge line discussion)

I do not have a 12v outlet..even if I did I wouldn't tow with the ACC on.

Just mounted my Rock Hard 4x4 bumper with Blue Ox attachments this week. Still have to finish up wiring the socket for lights but have the CoolTech wire harness installed and the RVi battery charger hooked up.

Cool tech makes something that leaves the 12v plug on all the time. I had it in my Mojave. I have it for this, but can’t find where I placed it at the moment.
