Garmin watch vs 8.4" infotainment

Had a weird thing happen this afternoon... I had Android Auto on the infotainment screen, plugged into the USB-C port in the dash. My wife needed to charge her Garmin watch, so she plugged it into the USB port inside the console. The screen went blank, and I couldn't use Android Auto again until I shut the truck off and started it up later. I could use the crappy built in nav and other apps.

Are the USB ports in the back of the armrest charge only, or are they also media ports?

Actually one is media and one is charge. The charge only shows a little battery icon next to it.

Mine are charge only with the 8.4 Alpine. The one just below the stereo and the one in the center console are media. How odd.

I have charged two different Garmin watches in the back seat in the standard USB port, I am pretty sure neither the USB nor USB-C are data. The only data should be in the dash and console.

They must have changed it or maybe it is different in the Gladiator. My 2018 JL has one charge and one data in the back. I honestly wish they were both charge. Every once in awhile one of my kids plugs an Iphone in the wrong one and I get the message asking if I want to use Carplay. Lol.
