Has anyone experienced an issue when slowing down and the brakes not working correctly? I've had this happen 2 separate times. I'm in the process of coming to a stop and the accelerator won't allow the brakes to stop the vehicle. I have to put the transmission into Neutral then the brakes stop the vehicle. It's random and the dealership can't recreate the issue. I have a 2021 Gladiator with 5000 miles. I'm hoping someone has had this issue and found a fix. I absolutely love this vehicle but don't feel safe driving it. Especially in icy and snow covered roads.

The only time that I’ve experienced anything like this is when my big fat Sorel snow boots were simultaneously pressing the accelerator pedal while I was braking.

I’ve experienced it off road while accelerating up a rough hill and quickly trying to stop. My other thought was wide shoes…

Do you have your ACC on when this happens?

ACC is killed the moment you hit that brake pedal, even just nudge it and you get a message on the cluster "ACC cancelled" I've bumped the brake pedal accidentally on long drives and it cancels.
If it doesn't, you have a problem with that switch or the ABS system.
ACC will even brake for you if there's a vehicle up ahead and you are approaching quickly - to maintain the distance you have set and ACC works up to a complete stop, stopping you.

And that is one reason I don't wear my swampers in my car or JT. With one of my cars I could hit three pedals at once.

Your brakes are more powerful than your engine. Period.

So something is not right. Either something electronic is making the brakes not function or . . well that is just about it. Every other scenario the brakes should able to easily overpower the engine.

If you are 110% sure that the brakes weren't soaking wet (when it may take a second for them to grab) and that you were in fact on the brake pedal (you'd be surprised at how often people mess it up) then you have some kind of an electric gremlin that is causing the brakes to release pressure like when the ABS is functioning.

Agreed - even if the engine was at 2,000 rpm, you could stop with these brakes. They are very good.

I don't think anyone has asked yet - since all of these have a tach on the left side - what is the engine RPM when this happens? Does the engine drop back down to idle or even under 1,000 rpm?
Is there any chattering sound of the ABS working?
These things have crazy good brakes, IMO.

Thing we really need to know do have any idea what's going on -
Is the engine dropping back to idle? What's the tach read (RPM)?
Is your foot REALLY off the throttle?
If the engine isn't dropping back, putting the transmission in neutral should send the RPM jumping up high.
Hmmm, this is an automatic, isn't it? OR is it a manual and you don't have the clutch pushed all the way down?
Any rattling sound, chattering, to indicate ABS is going nuts?

When the Audi "sudden acceleration" scandal hit in the 90s Audi's sales were decimated.

Audi did a bunch of testing and found the people were accidentally on the gas even though they insisted they were on the brake. People disagreed, it was a big problem.

Since cars have had onboard "black boxes" unintended acceleration claims have largely disappeared because the manufacturer or the courts can retrieve historical data about throttle position and brake pedal pressure.

Also, 60 minutes totally fabricated a story about it, which was proven to be false later.

Toyota had an issue on acceleration as well........... that's one reason they went with their free maintenance programs. They had a real public relations issue.

Gotta be careful about some of the stories on the news magazines. They can prove anything they want to.

Thanks. The dealer asked me the same question when I took it in to get it looked at. I didn't have shoes on that caused me to hit the gas and brake at the same time. I appreciate the thought.
