Well, it's a cold morning and my batteries shot craps (main and auxiliary). I'm not ready for the Lithium option, so I pulled the trigger on Odyssey AGM batteries. They are supposedly twice as powerful and will last three times as long as lead acid, up to 15 years. The main battery cost $350 and auxiliary was $150. I'll let you know if they live up to their reputation.

I think they are even made in Missouri.

I have one in my Nismo. And had one in my Power Wagon. When it's replacement time with the JT. I'll get one for it.

Well the Odyssey 94R H7 size fits perfect. The Odyssey Auxiliary battery isn't a direct replacement, so I went with AC Delco Auxillary battery. If the Odyssey is as good as they say, I'll be using them in all my vehicles.

Odyssey makes an Aux battery? My Aux is failing right now in my JL. I think the Odyssey main battery is fine, as the Jeep starts with strength as always, but I get the message that ESS or Aux buttons are shut down from time to time. (I don't use ESS).

So I think I need an Aux. battery. The main Odyssey is probably only 3 1/2 years old.

I'm currently running an Ac/Delco. Those damned Aux batteries last 3 years and that's about it. I think anything beyond 3 is on borrowed time.

The three big auto stores want $149 for aux batteries. Batteries Plus has one for $112. That one only has a 6 month guarantee. The AC/Delco on Amazon is only $108 and it has a 3 year warranty.

If there is no Odyssey aux battery, I'll go with the Amazon deal.

You just need to replace the Auxiliary battery as your Odyssey is only 3 1/2 years old. When your auxiliary battery finally dies, you won't be able to start your car, as it controls the main starter battery.

I was getting warning messages that said "Auxiliary switches not available, battery charging. They tested my main battery and the report said it had 500 CCA, vs 750 CCA when new. It tested good and still had a bit of life but I wanted to change both batteries anyway.

Here's another video of replacing the Auxiliary battery from the fender well, which I did. I ended up breaking off a couple plastic connectors and had to order some more for the wheel liner. Replacing the Auxiliary battery from either the top or the bottom is a PITA!!

I would check to see if Optima has an auxiliary battery available, since Odyssey's isn't a direct replacement.

If anyone has found a great auxiliary battery let us know.

I found this listing of replacement batteries on a Jeep JL Forum site. Hope this helps.

Yep, I figure it's just the aux. This will be the 3rd I've done. 1 for my JLUR, 1 for a buddy's JT. My JT got a new one a year ago under warranty, along with the main battery. Fortunately, the Aux failed just before 36k and the dealership is great. They took care of both, which is their standard procedure. Usually the OEM starting battery will fail soon after the Aux.

My first replacement on the JL was at 3 years, 2 months. They didn't fail. It was preventative. I've seen too many of them croak at the worst time, usually within a few months of 3 years.

I'm ordering the Aux battery off Amazon today.

Do you leave your power supply in the camper for the winter or bring it inside?

For the last year I have left my Pecron Power Supply in my truck. It charges whenever I’m running the engine. I like this because I can simply decide last minute to go camping and I don’t have to pack. I keep everything in the truck for an overnight stay including my diesel heater and a few cans of food I can heat up on my electric pan.

This strategy surprised me on a couple trips when my power supply didn’t work due to the cold. It simply will not charge or turn on until it is warm.

From now on I leave my power supply hooked up in the house for the winter. I just have to throw it in the camper when I go, knowing that it’s charged and working. A bit less convenient but this way no unpleasant surprises. I still leave the power supply full time in the truck when the temps are above freezing.

What do you do with power supplies in the winter?

The late fall is my favorite time of year to go camping. The bugs and weeds are gone, the woods are easy to see through, and the weather is wonderful. The river is down and I took a trip to see if my food plot and camp site survived being flooded. The trails dried up enough so I could wind my way down the mile of trails to the site. All looks good.

Well it's either fossilized poop perfectly laid in the shape of a snail. Or it's a snail that's around 55 million years old or older.

Here's what I found. It looks like a planisphere gastropod (flat spiral snail) that is about 350 million years old. Although this species existed from 500 to 250 million years ago, Missouri was covered by a shallow ocean about 350 million years ago in this area. I've also found hundreds of fossils that I originally thought was petrified wood. Our local university identified it as petrified coral from the Mississipian era.

All sorts of stuff you find in the woods!

I was only off by 2-3 hundred million years.
