I figured you may know this answer - a while back I read in a MOPAR magazine that the Gladiator with the tailgate in the middle position could haul 20 sheets of plywood. That's a quote - they said 20 sheets.
We (or you, the plywood expert) know that there's a huge difference between quarter inch plywood and three-quarter inch plywood.
So, were they basing that claim of hauling 20 sheets of plywood off 1/4", 1/2" or 3/4" plywood?
Further, was it the cheap stuff or the better cabinet grade Baltic Birch plywood?
There's hundreds of pounds of difference depending on the plywood thickness and grade.

Anyone doing the math and trying to figure how tall a stack of 20 sheets of 3/4" plywood might be needs to know that it's actually 23/32" - not truly 3/4".

My guess is the # of sheets depends on how high you can stack it with the tailgate in the plywood position before you exceed the bed rail height. They say the tailgate can support 500 lbs, and the total weight of the plywood stack would not be on the tailgate. The supports required to level with the tailgate are 7” high... bed height minus 7” = ?.
Edit- measured my bed down to the support and it is approx 10”.
That means the 15 sheets could be 3/4 plywood. Of the best quality!

I know one thing for sure and that is this forum helped save me a bunch of money on my purchase. Without this forum I would have paid a lot more than what I did and for that I am thankful. Also, I do love seeing what others are doing with their rigs. My favorite thread is "what have you done to your Gladiator". I absolutely love seeing all of your builds! So keep those build list and pictures coming please.
yep! wish I knew those things when i bought my Pacifica. Could have been $5,000 more in jeep mods!

"The damped, three-position tailgate in the middle setting matches up the tops of the rear wheel housing, enabling Gladiator to haul an impressive 20 sheets of 4×8 plywood or drywall flat"
https://www.moparmagazine.com/2019/03/the-all-new-2020-jeep-gladiator/

I don't think drywall comes in 3/4", and i think 5/8" plywood is relatively rare, so my guess is 1/2". Roughly 10".

This would make sense as the tailgate is 7" above the bed and I think the bed depth is 19.5". So 10" of plywood would still fit under the tonneau or bed rail.

EDIT:
Oh and top google hit says, "1/2” (15/32) Plywood = 1.42 per square foot = 40.6 lbs. 3/8” (11/32) Plywood = 1.12 per square foot = 28.5 lbs."
so 285lbs roughly.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but i think they originally said the tailgate could handle 300 lbs in mid position, then re-published 500 as the new weight.

EDIT EDIT:
YES i found it. Gladiator tailgate can support up to 500 lbs payload in middle position

EDIT EDIT EDIT:
Hey @ShadowsPapa , next time use the F**cking search function.....:CWL: just kidding, I aim to please.

Don’t recall where I found these bed dimensions (4wheelparts.com?):
Bed Length (tailgate closed): 60.3 inches
Bed Length (tailgate open): 81.3 inches
Opening Width At Tailgate: 50 inches
Width Between Wheel Wells: 44.8 inches
Bed Depth (Floor To Top Of Rail): 17.4 inches
Box Width (inside of bed rails): 55.2 inches*
Box Width (outside of bed rails): 60.8 inches

*support was cut to approx 57 3/4. (Which would be below the rails! - hope I didn’t confuse anyone with this!)

LOL - I knew he could do it!
And that's the magazine quote - it was in the print version laying in the waiting area of the dealership.

I believe drywall is either 1/2" for walls or 5/8" for ceilings.
A 2x4 wall stud is 3.5" so add 1/2 and 1/2 (a sheet on each side) gives you a door frame that is 4.5" wide - you rip the boards for the door frame to 4 9/16" so the casing lays nice.

Router bits used to make the dadoes or grooves for 3/4" plywood are actually 23/32" cutting diameter so the dado isn't too large for the plywood you are inserting.

That seems right as when I was looking at buying I wanted to know the tailgate opening width and figured yeah, 50" would cut it for hauling sheet goods.

as for my forum-ing viewpoints... in case anybody cared.

I've probably only been a member of 5-6 forums. I use to spend a bunch of time on a scooter forum. I get a kick out of going back there every 3-5 years and saying hi. I got a lot out of that place, but also helped out many people along the way.

Sometimes you wonder why a newb is posting the same old thing that I have seen 20 times. But that newb hasn't been on this forum for 2 years and posted 7,000 times either. Often I just ignore stuff (as others recommended) but sometimes its fun to help people. Somebody might not know where to search, which thread, what wording to use, ect. ect. and if I already have a leg up on their search, I might try helping them out. People will surprise you. Maybe one day that guy you helped months ago buys something from you, or does a really cool write up that helps out the JT group.

Sometimes people aren't that "into" the forum as I am. Maybe they just like the way the JT looks but then find the seat uncomfortable and are hoping people give them good advice about how to shim the seat, or that it'll get better or whatever.

I laughed on the toilet this morning reading this thread :ontheloo:, cuz I only have a few hundred posts on a Pacifica forum, but one of my threads was about EXACTLY that the seat was uncomfortable and I was hoping others could help me out. I loved the Van, just didn't like the seat. Now after owning it for 18k miles, I don't notice the seat at all. Either my back broke in, or the seat did.

Recently I joined a BBQ forum, just to post once about how to fix my stupid Master whatever smoker whose control board took a crap on me. I did use the search function and found a thread made by a guy with thousands of posts, and I pm'ed him. I treated him with kindness, for i'm truly grateful he pointed me in the right direction and answered all of my questions. I probably will never post on that forum again cuz i'm not that into BBQing, but i was a newb, got some info I needed to make my life better.

You never know where a person is coming from, what struggles they have. Sometimes I need to keep my own attitudes in check because perhaps somebody just had a bad day and wanted to bitch about XYZ on the JT........

Anyways, i've been on worse forums, haven't been on a better one actually. You guys/gals rock. Keep the mods/builds coming. I love the what did you do TO and WITH threads.....now i'm just waiting for Roam rock rails and a fricken real ALU-Cab photo......

Hey @WhatExit? and others. Shoot me a PM if you see something that needs to be merged with another thread or is against the forum policies. I'm helping Jay try and keep an even keel around here now. After discussing it with him and reviewing the issues brought up in this thread we have come up with a game plan to bring a balance to the complaints vs content sides of the forum.
We have no intention of trying to cover up legitimate issues. At the same time, we want to make sure that the overwhelming theme of the forum should not be the airing of grievances. To that end the issues threads will be rerouted to the issues subforum and similarly themed issues will be merged into the parent thread for that issue. I know I've butted heads with a couple of you on a few things but know that this will never affect my impartiality where the actual use of the forum is concerend. I have been a moderator for many Jeep forums over the years and I value open honest discussion and debate.

The other truck forum I'm apart of the mods put together some stickies, the main one, after you become a member is a READ THIS FIRST, and it goes through the explanation of using the search tools before starting a new thread of the same question for the 30th time, as well a some other good 1st timer info. they also have them for some of the basic universal questions that that address common problems w/known fixes and such. And what tires will fit under what models with what lifts blah blah blah. All the basics as different sticky threads to help answer the basics right away. Just a thought to help alleviate some of the clutter.

I've put that togheter on other forums too. I will most definitely come up with some as time allows. Great idea.

Good to see someone taking on management of the forum threads, organization and agree that multiple threads sometimes confuse or muddy true issues. (HVAC..........)

My partner and I who started our forum over 12 years ago brought in a team of even-handed moderators who help clean things up - DELETE old wanted or for sale threads after xx days, merge multiple threads that cover the exact same topic, have a place for links to the posts that answer specific questions, and we have a "how to" area....... someone comes up with a way to resolve an issue, and if that way is deemed "THE" answer, then it gets to be a sticky (window auto-up comes to mind - so it doesn't get lost)
We have a former marine and border guard, Lutheran minister, school teacher, telecom tech guy as the mods and Ian and I were able to step back and relax. The mods created rules, stickies, do clean-up and it's become mostly self-policing. Two other similar forums blew themselves apart after we started - so we had some ticked off people joining and giving us crap at first, but that settled down, they blamed us. Hey, we just operated better and were more friendly to ALL - beginners, hard-core racers, whatever.
