We have a Tuscadero colored JLU Willys Sport here in Belgium (and impatiently waiting to buy our new Tuscadero JT Willys next week) … I’ve been tempted to try and go to the Ring for one lap just to be completely ridiculous lmfao

I see your cousin is a learned man of refined taste and good upbringing who has AAA on speed dial.
My cousin is a she. And Nancy is very much a blonde. She has a PhD, and zero common sense.

My fault for assuming she was a she.

That being said, the rest of the statement tracks as to what type of person would own multiple British cars.

I don’t think she owned them long enough for them to give her any trouble. Think 3 years tops for any of them. Didn't put that many miles on them.

As a young car nut, I'd read and heard the stories (And endless Lucas jokes) about British cars. In high school a friend's father had a MGB convertible. It was a fun car to poke around in after we took of the power robbing smog pump and associated stuff... British engineered excellence on full display.

But we never drove it if there was a whiff of rain in the forecast any less than 3 states away. And even then never more than we were willing to push it back home. It stranded both of us each at least once or twice individually and at least once when he and I were running around town in it.

That being said, I'd love to have a MGB GT coupe in the garage. I don't think I'd ever drive it though, too much of a risk of being stranded by the Dark Prince of Electronic Devices.

I helped a high school buddy rebuild the V12 engine in his Jag XKE. It was leaking oil. The joke was that it was marking it's territory. The engine was leaking through the block casting. We used red electrical insulating spray paint inside the block to seal it.

@Rusty PW I love the v12 coupes and the E types. D, too.

It's really a shame they never found their way in the modern era. It probably didn't help them with badge engineered Ford Mondeo/Contours, but at least it modernized its production and made them reliable.

And as so well illustrated in your example above, I could tolerate mechanical issues and leaks but I couldn't live with the absolute shit build quality of Jag prior to Ford. That comes from someone who daily's a 20 year old BMW.

Maybe they should have been allowed to expire with grace and fall back on their heritage rather than whatever the hell is going on there now. If you think Stellantis is run poorly... Whoa. The entire recent lineup are gorgeous vehicles and should be sold in great numbers. They should be directly competing with BMW and Audi.

Instead they've been killed of for some marketing group's idea of a repositioning to compete at the ultra lux Veblen level. They should be directly competing with BMW and Audi. Ooo. And they got a new logo and an edgy artsy farsty haute couture ad campaign.

When the supercharged F-Type V8 came out. I was in love with it. I DROOLED over that car. If it wasn't for the first wifey. I think I would have gotten one.

I read the news today on their new ad. They're getting the Bud Light treatment now. And they can't afford that.

Bet it was a bittersweet goodbye. But hey, if the Gladiator can handle the Nurburgring, maybe it’s time for something more rugged in your life.
To be honest, I'm not tempted to take my Gladiator on the Ring.

And I even don't know if I could go there, I have heard that they have banned trucks from the Touristenfahrten lately.

I had a 69 MGB convertible in 74 when I was a young broke serviceman. We used to take bets on when it would strand me. A lot of fun, had a dealers parts guy tell me the electrical system was knitted out of WWII surplus parts.

It built character, right?

Do you know why the British drank their beer warm for so long? Because Lucas built the refrigerators.

The British government spent hundreds of thousands of pounds in a study to figure out how to fix that problem. Biggest issue they found was they could make the fridges get cold, but they just couldn't figure out how to make a fridge belch smoke and leak oil at the same time.

I was stationed in England in 78-79. I found the chilled beer good after a while. Several of us went to the beach over a long 4th of July break one of out group asked the waitress at a restaurant if he could get ice for his drink. She replied "Bloody hell you are the second person this week that wanted ice."

The UK is just plane strange. They tax each tv in the house, plus screens on your windows. Then you have the value added tax.

George Harrison said:
Let me tell you how it will be
There's one for you, nineteen for me
Cos I'm the taxman, yeah, I'm the taxman

Should five per cent appear too small
Be thankful I don't take it all
Cos I'm the taxman, yeah I'm the taxman

If you drive a car, I'll tax the street
If you try to sit, I'll tax your seat
If you get too cold I'll tax the heat
If you take a walk, I'll tax your feet

Taxman!
Cos I'm the taxman, yeah I'm the taxman

Don't ask me what I want it for (Aahh Mr. Wilson)
If you don't want to pay some more (Aahh Mr. Heath)
Cos I'm the taxman, yeah, I'm the taxman

Now my advice for those who die
Declare the pennies on your eyes
Cos I'm the taxman, yeah, I'm the taxman

And you're working for no one but me
Taxman!
Interesting note: Harrison wrote that in response the Labour government instituting all sorts of increased taxes to cover their profligate spending and entitlement programs.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.
