I did a quick search and didn't find much but is anyone experiencing fading in either their cloth or leather seating when they go topless? I'm trying to decide between cloth and leather and I feel like leather would really fade more but I am curious if Jeep has addressed this with some kind of special leather treatment that they do to the seating material? Or should I just not worry about it? I plan on having the panels off quite a bit and am worried about potentially damaging the seating surfaces over time.

Most modern vehicle materials are stable against UV; of course nothing is perfect and over time you will see fading with cloth. Leather is a little easier, keep it cleaned and conditioned so it doesn't dry out and crack; leather can last generations when properly cared for.

You could also get a mesh sun shade that will filter some of the light and offers some protection. Where you are located also matters; I live in the high desert, we are closer to the sun with a lot less atmosphere to help with scattering solar radiation.

Agreed but there is also a level of UV protection through the glass as most vehicles come with some level of tinting from the factory. With the top off, this thing is bare to the sun and I have a feeling I'd probably keep the top off most of the time during the summer months, so I'm just concerned that I'd be damaging it. I did consider the option of putting seat covers as well but not sold on that 100% yet. I will research the mesh sun shade. I know my buddy has one for his Wrangler but that's more to make sure his head doesn't get sunburnt. Would be nice if it did both, lol

Either way you go both will have noticeable fade after a year or two. The leather probably a little less but factory cloth seats tend to stain and spot due to sweat (salts from our skin) more than leather will show. If you apply seat covers to leather that would be ideal but make sure that they are airbag compliant to the safety systems in the vehicle. Some apply to this and others don’t.

My seats look new 4 years later, I have the black leather. I clean them with leather cleaner and treat the leather with leather conditioner it has UV protection in it. My top is off 10 months out of the year, doors off all summer…thank you San Diego lol
