When we did our trip in ā20 it was in our truck camper, a diesel F-350 with an expedition pop up truck camper. I was also concerned and bout changes and did bring some stuff to do an oil change (along with a couple of other maintenance items) but found out I didnāt need to do that. We changed the oil and filter just before we left NC and our oil change light came on the first time in WY which was only a few thousand miles! Found a Ford dealer who had a quick lube lane and got that taken care of.So do you have a tentative plan on oil changes / services? You can do the "oil change in a box" sort of thing. On the way, no I'm not saying to stop dumping, fill n go. I've had to do oil changes on a few trips and even axles due to flooding with water even. I kept a 8-10 qt drain pan "bottle" in my XJ for situations. Came in handy many times not just for me even.
Have a great trip and enjoy take pics.
Then as we were pushing hard to get across the Yukon in the 24 hour time we were allowed (we didnāt make that!) my check engine light came on in the middle of no freakin where! Pulled out the OBII reader and saw it was a sensor in the exhaust system. We changed plans after crossing into AK and headed to the nearest Ford dealer in Fairbanks (a 200 mile detour) they couldnāt see us that day as it was late so we got a hotel room nearby. The next morning they had diagnosed the issue and replaced the sensor and it was covered by a recall so no charge. They also changed our oil and filter. We drove the rest of the trip and didnāt have to change again until we were back in the lower 48.
So the lesson is that oil changes arenāt a big deal. I would bring a couple of extra filters (oil and air) just in case you canāt make it to a dealership or larger town but you should be fine.
