I have found myself saying this at least once a week these days....
I don't foresee this getting any better any time soon either. I think every organization that gets big enough to be a target is scrambling, or should be, to figure out how to get in front of it. Insurance is a thing for these type events, but for them to cover your claim the requirements are getting every day more and more stringent and the "service" itself is crazy expensive.

Most vendors are moving to SaaS and customers love it as it becomes more and more prevalent as you take the infrastructure burden off yourself and place onto the vendor, but if they are not following best practices, sometimes even if they are, you could be in deep waters with no paddle or raft or life jacket as they are trying to save their ship from sinking while you are left with no way to conduct current business and are facing potential data losses.

What am I trying to say? Make sure you back up your data regularly, keep it off the network, keep your phones, tablets, computers and anything else that touches the internet up-to-date and maybe even just wipe it to factory settings once every couple of months to keep hackers out of your stuff.

Every used car in the country is getting its odometer rolled back right now.
”Oh that? Darn hackers corrupted the database.”

I just laugh at these. Ransomware and malware in general is SO easy to recover from without paying ransoms or losing data. I’ve only had three instances in my career of clients being infected, as I’m very big on edge security, but anyone can get the short end of a zero day vulnerability. But when it happens, if proper precautions are in place, no more than one day of downtime should be experienced.

But having a cyber security team or assets is too expensive LOL

Video is Slightly inaccurate.. the Dealerships were not HACKED.... The Company the dealerships use for business operations did get hacked; and is down .. causing major issues for 15,000 USA dealerships and 2000 Canadian dealerships; this is a GLOBAL corporation that was Hacked.

Such a shame….jeep dealers have had such stellar reputation for service and customer support of their high quality, well engineered, reliable vehicles…and now this…hopefully it won’t undermine their “no customer left behind” mantra.
