Hated Safety issue

I also dislike this feature, however I will never disable it. Heres why:

A few years ago I was out on a mountain trail and needed to get out of the truck to check on the trailer. I was distracted by a few different things and wasn't paying enough attention to what I was doing, and I was too quick to put the truck in park and try to get out. I missed park and instead put the truck into reverse. I didn't even realize it wasn't in park until I got back in the truck. If it weren't for auto-park the truck would have started rolling backwards down the mountain, with the Mrs in the passenger seat. We had issues with the parking brake earlier this trip, so that was inoperable and therefor not engaged.

I felt like such a piece of shit. Never in my life had I been so careless. Even now thinking about it my stomach twists into a knot thinking about what might have happened had the truck not put itself into park. Ever since then I am very deliberate when going to park, and I always check the cluster for P.

I did it before , so dont worry your not alone in that toilet bowl of shame.
I did it on a job site with people around . When zi got back in and this was better than 5 min. I pretty much freaked out a little bit. I am with you. I will never disable that.
I worked with a site lead who pulled up on a job got out of his truck and forgot to put in park and it rolled forward off into a deep excavation and was totalled.

Don't get me started on the Nanny crap they put in cars today. You have to add more nanny stuff when you have shift by wire instead of an actual mechanism going from the shifter to the transmission. More crap to fail, more issues when it does, more costly, and YOU get to pay for it. Advertise the highest tow rating, then make it impossble to back up with the door open so you can see what you are doing. Shove a camera back there, that can, and will fail, followed by more crap that can, and will fail, and YOU get to pay for it all. But at least you have a jumbo tron on your dash while they tell you to keep your eyes on the road. My Gladiator fails, and I am going back to a base regular cab, long bed work truck. My gladiator has air bags on the side now. WTF for? The doors come off. Get off my lawn

Mine dont have the side airbags I don't think . Just the dashboard ones.
Speaking of Dashboards with big screen jumbotrons.
The term Dashboard comes from horse drawn Buggy rides. Dash is a kinder turn for manure. A board that is placed on the front of the Buggy was called a dashboard because if the horse crapped and flipped it up with their legs it would stop the $#!t from hitting you and the wife in the face. The term " stuck" and never left.
Dashboard. Always has been covered with lots of Manure.

If you shift into Park, then shift back to Reverse, you can back up with the door open.

I absolutely hate the fact that my 2020 new to me Gladiator Overland will not move in forward or reverse if the door isn't closed. Sometimes when hooking ups trailer for example and I need to back 1 more inch I jump in but have to close the door to move an inch. It's a real
PITA. Any way to disable that feature?

This is the shortest seatbelt extender option that doesn't eliminate the seatbelt. I don't even notice that it's there anymore. It takes a little while to get used to pressing the extender button instead of the actual seatbelt button.

The sensors in the steel bumpers i am not a fan. That big bulky thing in the front window i am also not a fan lol Hold my nose with blindspot monitoring in the LED lights. Dummy Me would think like "Oh let me get all these safety features and mybe my insurance rates will be better". The insurance compony goes and give me the big F U with a rate hike saying "It cost more to replace". Lol we can't win fellas.

The best new and more functional safety item believe it or not is the new driver side bulky crash bar thing they started doing in 2026.

I think that is only there on the models that came with one of the various tow packages (with being a Gladiator is most but not all of them). Of course, if you DON'T have that feature, I believe it can be enabled with the Tazer as well.

Its awful what these insurance companies do to us- Am at the point where i wonder why they exist to be honest. Anyway i've always liked the more base models work truck/Jeeps, I hate anything that is unnecessary over engineered besides amor and beefier drive line components. Jeep did not need to remove the antenna and force upon us that forward collision system even thou its not all that bad when you drive but i do hate the lose of options. I purposely went out looked for a base 2024 sport max tow after almost 4 years in my beautiful diesel overland because i wanted the least amount of tech as possible. The only thing i miss is my heated steering wheels and seats lol Am getting old..

The + magnifying button on backup screen is missed by most, it was at least a few months before I knew it, wife's JLU didn't have it so never looked.

Drive a manual and you can open the doors while moving, none of the auto park crap, but the dash will ding at you.

The seatbelt being on disables autopark. You can buy a $20 seatbelt extender on Amazon and the Jeep will think it's on even when it's not.
