Hated Safety issue

I absolutely hate the fact that my 2020 new to me Gladiator Overland will not move in forward or reverse if the door isn't closed. Sometimes when hooking ups trailer for example and I need to back 1 more inch I jump in but have to close the door to move an inch. It's a real
PITA. Any way to disable that feature?

The seatbelt being on disables autopark. You can buy a $20 seatbelt extender on Amazon and the Jeep will think it's on even when it's not.

This feature sometimes tricks me into thinking my transmission just took a dump.

Have you tested that? If it works I'm doing it!

Only asking if it works because when my doors are off I can drive with no seat belt needed, so I thought the auto-park was more of a door-sensor issue than a seatbelt-sensor issue.

It's both.

If the door is open the truck isn't moving unless your seat belt is buckled. The truck wants to know that you are attached to the seat.

That way you don't get out and get run over / crushed by your own truck like that one actor did.

Also, just when you think 'that wont happen to me' just remember, people like my fiance exist that left her van running for 13 hours at work the other day because she forgot to turn it off.

That's one reason why a lot of new vehicles have idle timers when in park

Pretty sure that's not on every JT and especially not the ones with the smaller UConnect early on in the run.

I also dislike this feature, however I will never disable it. Heres why:

A few years ago I was out on a mountain trail and needed to get out of the truck to check on the trailer. I was distracted by a few different things and wasn't paying enough attention to what I was doing, and I was too quick to put the truck in park and try to get out. I missed park and instead put the truck into reverse. I didn't even realize it wasn't in park until I got back in the truck. If it weren't for auto-park the truck would have started rolling backwards down the mountain, with the Mrs in the passenger seat. We had issues with the parking brake earlier this trip, so that was inoperable and therefor not engaged.

I felt like such a piece of shit. Never in my life had I been so careless. Even now thinking about it my stomach twists into a knot thinking about what might have happened had the truck not put itself into park. Ever since then I am very deliberate when going to park, and I always check the cluster for P.

Unless you got an uneven ass driveway like mine and it seems like no matter where I stop the truck rolls out from under the ball

Sometimes I'm just out there yanking on the trailer like eff it, its close enough - or if its close enough and I can't move the trailer I set the edge of the hitch on top of the ball then lift the trailer jack just a touch and get in the truck and bump it slightly to make it fall on the ball

I remember an Air Force Radio Maintenance Airman died when the driver accidently kicked the transfer case shifter into neutral. It rolled backwards and down the mountain almost 400 feet. She was ejected. This was in '06 I think. IIRC it was a 90's chevy 2500 4x4. That's why the transfer cases have detents to shift to and passed N.
